Preview:
Edwin Jackson ended up being his own worst enemy last time out, pitching well but making a costly mistake that kept him winless through eight straight starts.
The Washington Nationals right-hander hopes to end that fruitless stretch this evening in the continuation of a three-game series with the New York Mets.
Jackson is 1-3 with a 3.17 earned run average through 10 starts this season and hasn't won since April 14. He has dropped back-to-back starts despite allowing only four earned runs in that span.
He was touched for two runs -- one earned -- on five hits and three walks over 6 2/3 innings at the Marlins on Tuesday and it was that unearned run that led to his defeat. Jackson threw a ...

Gavin Cecchini and the Mets’ draft picks in the first 15 rounds
Round 1: Gavin Cecchini – There are quite a few Met fans who are angry with this decision. The Mets could have gone after Hawkins or Giolito… but I think that Gavin actually fits pretty well into the Met’s farm system. Obviously, the Mets are not gifted with a plethora of SS options in their minors (the draft will prove this point) as Ruben Tejada is the MLB short-stop...

PreGame: New York Mets (31-24) at Washington Nationals (30-22)
The Mets open a nine-game road trip tonight in Washington D.C. where they’ll begin a three-game set with the National League East leading Nationals. Just a half game separates the Mets and Nats in the standings, so the outcome of this series will have an impact on how the division looks going forward in June. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and the game can be seen on SNY...
Dickey’s Domination, Mets 3, Nationals 1
The last thing we expected to say before the season started is that a Mets pitcher would be the first pitcher in baseball to pick up nine victories on the year.
Better still, it is veteran knuckle ball pitcher R.A. Dickey that claims that title. He tossed seven and a third shutout innings today against the Washington Nationals, en route to a 3-1 win over their division rival.
Chien...
There’s No Crying in Baseball! I Beg to Differ…
How can a moment like this not bring a die-hard Mets fan to tears?
One of my all-time favorite sports movies is “A League of Their Own”, which chronicled the installation of women’s baseball during World War 2 in order to keep the nation’s spirits up while many of the professional men’s players were away fighting. From reading a little about the actual history, the movie...
Jon Rauch has debris in his elbow
Jon Rauch has debris in his elbow, and will miss this series against the Nationals, according to Adam Rubin ESPN New York.
The Mets will not currently place him on the DL.
Honestly, not a huge loss at this point. However, it’s one less pitcher in your bullpen, and Mets starting pitchers aren’t going to go 7+ innings everyday. So it’s critically important that Rauch gets healthy...
Mets Complete Results From Day 2 of the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft
After taking Louisiana high school shortstop Gavin Cecchini 12th overall and Purdue catcher Kevin Plawecki with the 35th pick on the opening night of the draft, the Mets continued their selections Tuesday.
The Mets' selections at Nos. 35 and 71 overall came as compensation for losing Jose Reyes to the Marlins.
Here are the complete results from Day 2:
Rd. 2 (71st...
Mets 3, Nationals 1
Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey kept Washington swinging at shadows on a sunny afternoon, Lucas Duda homered again and the New York Mets averted a sweep, beating the Nationals 3-1 Thursday.
Dickey (9-1) tossed four-hit ball for scoreless 7 1-3 innings and extended the longest shutout streak of his career to 24 2-3 innings - a span that began against Pittsburgh and continued against San...
Predicting A Healthy Nationals Lineup
The Washington Nationals have dealt with a slew of injuries in the 2012 season, but as time goes on, the Nats continue to say in the mix despite some key offensive injuries to Jayson Werth and Wilson Ramos. Though Ramos will be gone for the rest of the season, Werth is scheduled to return for a playoff push.
If you look at the Nationals regular lineup now, it’s a whole lot better...
The Other Gonzalez: Getting to Know the Newest Nationals Pitcher
At this point in the season, everyone knows and loves the grinning goofball Gio Gonzalez, but another left-handed Gonzalez, who is lesser known to most Nats fans, joined the Washington Nationals pitching staff this week: reliever Michael Gonzalez.
Considered by some as one of the most desired free agents over the winter, Gonzalez has landed with the Nationals after recovering from...
The Nationals Can't Spell Strasburg and the Twins Don't Know Their Players' Names
If you're the Washington Nationals and you've already been widely embarrassed by having your team play a real professional baseball game with the team's name MISSPELLED on the uniform, one would think they would take steps to ensure something like that never happens again. It would also probably behoove the Nationals to make sure that when selling the uniform of the team...
Subway Series preview: Comparing the Mets and Yankees
There has been random polarization and a trend of parity through the first two months of the 2012 season, especially in both Eastern Divisions. The Orioles have run rough shot on the AL East after two months while the typical bottom-feeders in the NL East have sprinted out of the gate. I still am holding out on their endurance, however.
And low and behold, the frontrunners...

Nationals 7, Mets 6 (12 innings)
WASHINGTON -- Bryce Harper hit a bases-loaded single with two outs in the bottom of the 12th inning to give the Washington Nationals a 7-6 victory over the New York Mets on Tuesday night. Scott Hairston had given the Mets a 6-5 lead with a solo homer off Ross Detwiler (4-3) in the top of the 12th, but Washington scored twice in the bottom half to rally for the win. The Nationals...
