Roy Halladay will make his first start against his former teammates when the Phillies welcome the Toronto Blue Jays to Citizens Bank Park. The Blue Jays though will be the home team this weekend, which will give this series an interesting twist.
With the G20 Summit being held in Toronto it was decided that the home series for the Blue Jays would be moved in the best interest of the teams. Rather than move the series to a neutral site Major League Baseball opted to move the games to Philadelphia. While the games will be held in Citizens Bank Park, the games will be played under American League rules, including the designated hitter, and the Blue Jays will be the home team this weekend. Jimmy Rollins batting to lead off a game in Citizens Bank Park? Nice.
Halladay, who left Toronto on very good terms, will have to put aside any emotions and be prepared for a tough match-up. The Blue Jays have been displaying a solid offense with vernon Wells leading the way. Things have been bitter for Halladay lately as he is currently riding a three game losing streak. Halladay found himself on the wrong end of a 4-1 defeat on Sunday against Minnesota, which followed a shelling against the Yankees. Prior to that Halladay gave up one run against the Marlins but took the loss. The Phillies have scored eight total runs dating back to his perfect game performance in Florida (five games). Will the offense keep their momentum from the Cleveland series going? Halladay can only hope.
Looking to hand Halladay his fourth straight loss will be Jesse Litsch, making just his third start this season. Litsch is coming off a no decision against the San Francisco Giants, in which he pitched seven innings and held the Giants scoreless on three hits, no walks and three strikeouts. That was far better than his season debut against the Colorado Rockies when he lasted just 2.1 innings and allowed seven runs on nine hits. Against the Phillies in his career, Litsch is 0-1 with six runs allowed on 12 hits (three home runs) in seven total innings pitched in two appearances (one start).
