Lefty Travis Wood can get above .500 for the first time this season and add to a three-start win streak tonight when the Chicago Cubs visit Citi Field for the first of three weekend games with the host New York Mets.
Wood, in his first season with the Cubs after 39 appearances in two years with the Cincinnati Reds, began the year with losses in his first three decisions before breaking out with a 2-1 defeat of the crosstown Chicago White Sox in an interleague game on June 19.
He's since followed the triumph with a pair more, downing the Mets and the Houston Astros while combining for 14 2/3 scoreless innings of eight-hit ball with a single walk and 10 strikeouts.
Overall, in the three wins, the 25-...

He is just not the same guy…
Johan Santana’s 13 hits allowed against the lowly Chicago Cubs on July 6 tied a career-worst mark and provided further evidence that he’s not the same pitcher since notching a no-hitter last month.
Like most people, I do not think it’s a stamina problem from the no hitter. I think Santana has lost his “swagger”, and mound persona. You just don’t have that same feeling...
Mets News and Notes: Francisco, Santana
According to ESPN NY, Mets Closer Frank Francisco may appear in his first minor league rehab game Wednesday, Terry Collins said.
Francisco threw off a mound Saturday in Port St. Lucie, Fla., for the first time since straining his left oblique. He likely will throw once more off a mound before advancing to the rehab game.
Terry Collins also confirmed Johan Santana should...
Los Mets Rally Cut Short In 8-7 Loss To Cubs
Every pitcher has one of those days, and today, Johan had one of those days. Mets just cannot seem to beat the Cubs as they couldn’t finish their late inning rally, losing 8-7.
Johan Santana simply just did not have it today. And unfortunately, he didn’t have enough back up to cushion the blow. He gave up seven earned runs, five runs being from three different homeruns he gave...
Mets: Johan struggles, rally comes up short to Cubs 8-7
If you read my last article, I mentioned after the Mets comeback win Thursday against the Phillies that momentum is only as good as your next day starting pitcher. Last night, Johan Santana validated that point.
After the Mets had what many called the biggest win of this season, Johan Santana stepped on the rubber to face what seemed to be a much weaker Cubs team which holds the...
Daniel Murphy dazzles, Bobby Parnell ponders and Johan Santana surges
Daniel Murphy was one of several Mets to have a big game in Thursday’s come-from-behind win against Jonathan Papelbon and the Phillies. Lost amid the ninth-inning heroics was the excellent defensive play he made in the top of the eighth that saved at least one run. Murphy ranged far to his right to snag a ball hit by Placido Polanco, planted and without even looking at the...

Cubs-Mets Preview
Travis Wood is one of a select few to outpitch Johan Santana this season, getting the best of his fellow left-hander last week.
Accomplishing the feat on the road may prove to be more difficult.
Santana looks to improve on his already stellar numbers at Citi Field when his New York Mets host Wood's Chicago Cubs in the opener of a three-game set Friday night.

Game Preview: Cubs @ Mets
The Cubs and Mets start their last series before the All-Star break tonight as the Mets look for revenge from the last Cubs/Mets series. Last night the Mets were on the verge of losing the series against the Phillies when the offense started a real, 2012 Mets style ralley and with a some good AB’s they got the runs in. Anyway, Johan Santana looks to keep the energy levels up as...
Chicago Cubs (31-51) @ New York Mets (45-38)
The Cubs are tied or the worst record in the Majors, and they bring their continued struggles to Citi Field to close out the first half of the year against the Mets.
Keeping a grip on second place in the National League East, the Mets are fresh off one of their most momentous wins of the year against Philadelphia last night and will look to enter the 2012 All-Star break in style...
Nuthin’ But A Gee Thang. Starter Gets Mets Back On Track
After Johan Santana and R.A. Dickey flamed out to start the weekend, the Mets got back on the horse and rode it to a 3-1 win over the Cubs. Just don’t know how the Mets look so horrible against last place teams. They’re 4-7 against the Cubs, Rockies and Astros so far this season.
There wasn’t much to note about the game. Starting pitcher Dillon Gee went eight innings before...
There's A Disappointment Here Somewhere
I'm glad the Mets came back and made a game of this. Not so much for the "heart" or the "grit" that the Mets showed, but because when it was 7-2 in favor of the Cubs it was a sure thing that the knives were being sharpened to call this the dreaded "let down" game. And it wasn't. The loss to the Cubs was simply a case of Johan Santana not having...
