The new ownership group is throwing around money like Monty Brewster from Brewster’s Millions. Unfortunately, I dated myself with that reference, but no one could make us laugh quite like Richard Pryor. In this case of the Dodgers, it is Magic Johnson, Stan Kasten, and a host of others that are leaving no dime left unspent. That spending has helped the farm system in more ways than one. It helped the Dodgers in a direct way when they spent more than 30 million on Yusiel Puig. How good will he be? I suppose no one really knows and there wasn’t a whole heck of a lot of scouting done on him before the signing. While you can certainly question the multitude of deals they made before and after the deadline, they all had one thing in common: they took on salary in an effort not to trade key prospects. In the end a couple leaked out (primarily on the deal with Boston) but considering the talent they brought in they ended up doing okay.     Age LV How BP BA MLB ...

My 2012 Los Angeles Dodgers' minor league Players of the Year

It was an interesting year in the Dodgers' farm system. The team made a bunch of trades that hurt the system's depth. In fact, they traded away the likely winner of this award, Leon Landry, in the Brandon League deal. Hitter of the Year OF Joc Pederson, Rancho Cucamonga .313/.396/.516, 18 HR, 70 RBI, 96 R, 26 SB - Pederson started off the season slowly, hitting...

Dee Gordon activated from disabled list, not returning to starting lineup yet

The Dodgers have activated Dee Gordon from the disabled list and recalled him back to the Dodgers roster, but not as a starter. To make room for Gordon on the roster, the Dodgers moved Adam Kennedy to the 60-day disabled list, removing him from the 40-man roster. Dee Gordon, who has been shelved with a thumb injury for about 8 weeks returns to action, but with Hanley Ramirez cemented...

The Dodgers Schedule Gets Ugly Starting Right Now

The Dodgers start arguably their toughest stretch of the season today against the Cardinals at Chavez Ravine. After being dealt a relatively easy early season schedule, things now get ugly down the stretch. From September 13th to September 27th, the Dodgers play the Cardinals (.524) for four, then play the Nationals (.622), Reds (.604), and ...

New Los Angeles Dodgers looking worse than the old ones

In a movie called “Twice in a Lifetime,” Gene Hackman plays a blue collar worker in Seattle who is a diehard Seahawks fan.  There is a scene where he is watching the Mariners, who were very bad in the 80’s when the film was made, on TV, and his son says “these guys can’t get their act together.”  At which point Hackman’s character says “ahh, football season will...

D-backs finish season domination of Dodgers

PHOENIX If the Diamondbacks had played the rest of the league like they played the Los Angeles Dodgers this season, the NL wild card race would be a lot wilder than it is right now. It might even be a fall-back position. The series has been that lopsided. The D-backs have pushed the Dodgers around this season, both the older and more expensive versions, and Wednesday was no different...

A GIF Representation Of My Thoughts On A-Gon’s Backwards K, With Help From Trauma Dog

Yesterday, with the Dodgers down by one run and the tying run on second in the top of the ninth, Adrian Gonzalez struck out … because of course. It unfortunately reminded me of Carlos Beltran‘s infamous at-bat against Adam Wainwright in the NLCS, though obviously nowhere near as dramatic. With the help of who I... Read More »

Dodgers Owner Peter Guber Right To Preach Patience, But They Traded To “Send Signals”?

Dodgers owner Peter Guber encouraged fans to keep the optimism because the trade with the Red Sox was for more than just this season, which is indeed the rational thing to recognize. However, what the hell did he mean by saying they did it to “send signals”? “It’s not fair to judge anything for almost... Read More »

Missed opportunities cost Dodgers vs. D-backs

PHOENIX (AP) -- Justin Upton and Gerardo Parra hit consecutive RBI singles to support Trevor Cahill's seven strong innings, and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 on Wednesday night. The Dodgers, losers of six of their past seven, squandered a chance to pull even with St. Louis for the second NL wild-card spot. The Cardinals lost 3-2 to San Diego earlier...

John Henry Confirms Red Sox Made August Trade With Dodgers to 'Provide Payroll Flexibility'

Most baseball fans already assumed this, but Red Sox principal owner John Henry confirmed on Thursday that the Sox took part in August's megadeal with the Dodgers for financial reasons. Henry dropped by WEEI's Mut & Merloni Thursday to address a Fox Business report stating that ownership was looking to sell the team. Henry denied the report, calling it "just not...

Cardinals-Dodgers Preview

Despite struggling of late, both the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers remain in good position to claim the second wild-card berth in the NL. With a one-game lead over the Dodgers for that spot, the Cardinals look to avoid a fourth straight loss overall and fifth consecutive defeat at Chavez Ravine on Thursday night. Hoping for the chance to defend its World Series title...
