Found December 14, 2012 on Fox Sports Midwest:
The Cardinals have apparently found the veteran right-handed bat for their bench they desired this offseason. Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com was the first to report Friday morning that the Cardinals have reached an agreement on a two-year, 5 million contract with former All-Star corner infielder and outfielder Ty Wigginton. Wigginton, 35, hit .235 with 11 home runs and 43 RBI in 315 at-bats with the Philadelphia Phillies last season. The 11-year veteran has a career .263 average with the Mets, Pirates, Devil Rays, Astros, Orioles, Rockies and Phillies. The Cardinals sought to find a right-handed bat with some power this offseason and Wigginton fits their description. He has four seasons of at least 20 home runs, the last coming when he hit 22 home runs, had 76 RBI and made his only All-Star team with Baltimore in 2010. Wigginton is a career .233 pinch hitter (24-for-103) with three home runs and 24 RBI. He had just five hits in 33 pinch-hit at-bats in 2012 with one extra-base hit and three RBI. A former 17th round draft choice out of high school in 1998, Wigginton made his Major League debut with the Mets in 2002. His best season came in 2006 with Tampa Bay when he hit .275 and had a career best 24 home runs and 79 RBI.
