Last season, the Red Sox fielded the worst starting rotation in the American League East. Injuries and inconsistency doomed the Sox hurlers in last year’s disappointing campaign, but the staff is healthy and ready to go as spring training begins to wind down. Boston’s starting pitching should be much improved in 2013, but it won’t be the best in the division — at least according to The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo. The longtime baseball writer joined NESN Daily on Monday to rank each AL East team by rotation, with the Blue Jays taking top honors after bringing in All-Stars R.A. Dickey, Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle this offseason. To see how the Red Sox measure up in Cafardo’s pitching power rankings, check out the video above. Thumbnail photo via Facebook/Toronto Blue Jays

Notes from Blue Jays Camp

AL BEast Notebook – March 20 - Blue Jays were well-represented on the WBC champion Dominican team this month, with Jose Reyes hitting leadoff and Edwin Encarnacion batting cleanup for the team that went a perfect 8-0 in the tournament. They each hit doubles in the first inning to give the DR 2-0 lead in the final game, which would be all they needed. Reyes and Encarnacion were...

After missing most of the second half of 2012 with a wrist injury that required surgery, Jose Bautista is back and once again the core bat of more dangerous Toronto lineup. Lou Piniella: Blue Jays raped the Marlins in blockbuster trade over the winter

Retired MLB manager Lou Piniella signed a deal to work as a commentator for the YES Network this year. The regular season has yet to begin, but on Wednesday we got a taste of why someone who is a little rough around the edges like Piniella may be better off in the dugout than the broadcaster’s booth. During the third inning of a spring training game between the Boston Red Sox and...

Toronto Blue Jays Season Preview: Upgrade!

The remanent international franchise in MLB finished the 2012 season at 73-89 in the AL East. Thanks to the Red Sox though, they didn’t finish last. It was a fairly typical season in Toronto, one marked by sustained mediocrity interrupted sporadically by periods of ineptitude and injury. But that all changed as soon as the season ended. Alex Anthopoulos pulled out all the stops...
