Found August 31, 2013 on FenwayNation:
Anthony RanaudoRed Sox starting pitching prospect Anthony Ranaudo was named Pitcher Of The Year in the Eastern League. The AA league—in which Boston's Portland Sea Dogs play—cited the 23-year old right-hander for posting a 2.95 ERA for Portland before he was promoted to AAA Pawtucket on August 2nd. He also lead the league in WHIP and batting-average-against. Ranaudo set a Sea Dog record by fanning 13 Erie SeaWolves on June 13th. The Red Sox took a bit of a gamble drafting Ranaudo out of LSU back in 2010 with the 39th overall pick, but that gamble has clearly paid off.

Boston Red Sox acquire IF John McDonald from Phillies

In an attempt to bolster their infield depth for stretch run, the Boston Red Sox acquired veteran infielder John McDonald from the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night in exchange for Single-A pitcher Nefi Ogando. The Red Sox will become McDonald’s fourth team this season but Boston mainly acquired him for his leadership on and off the field and versatility. Despite only hitting...

John McDonald Always Thought Playing for Red Sox Was Possibility, Excited for Opportunity With Boston

John McDonald is finally playing in his own backyard. McDonald — a New London, Conn., native, Scituate, Mass., resident and Providence College product — is now suiting up for the Red Sox in his 15th major league season. While it marks McDonald’s seventh major league team and fourth of 2013, the 38-year-old journeyman always viewed Boston as a potential destination. “I think...

Shane Victorino’s Unique Offensive Adjustment Might Actually Be Result of Simple Logic

BOSTON — Shane Victorino doesn’t want to talk about it. Then again, there might not be much to talk about. Victorino, who is typically a switch-hitter, has been hitting solely right-handed of late, even against right-handed pitchers. It’s a very unique adjustment by the 32-year-old outfielder, although the reasoning behind Victorino’s change might actually be quite simple...

Boston has added pitcher Rubby De La Rosa, outfielder Quintin Berry, catcher Ryan Lavarnway and infielders Brandon Snyder and John McDonald. De La Rosa and Lavarnway were recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket. Berry was selected to the active...

Dempster May Get His Final 2013 Start Tonight

(AP Photo/The Canadian Press, Nathan Denette)To paraphrase the Lloyd Bridges character in the movie 'Airplane!', Ryan Dempster couldn't have picked a worse time to pitch poorly. As CSNNE.com's Sean McAdam points out, Dempster has been in a funk since his July 11th start against Seattle. Now that Clay Buchholz is set to return in about 10 days—and with a bunch of...

Felix Doubront Wins Amica Pitcher of the Week Honors After Holding Orioles to Only Two Runs in Series Opener

Felix Doubront is back to his dominating ways. After a pair of spotty starts in August, the left-hander was lights out against the Giants on Aug. 21, twirling an eight-inning gem, and Doubront followed that start in San Francisco with another stellar performance against the Orioles on Monday night in the series opener. The O’s only threat came in the second inning when Doubront...

Felix Doubront Looking Ahead to Next Start After Shaky Outing, Says ‘This Game Is Over,’ (Video)

After back-to-back strong performances from Felix Doubront in his last two starts, the left-hander struggled mightily when he took the mound on Sunday. Doubront tossed three solid innings against the White Sox, but he was chased early after giving up four runs in the fourth inning. The outing marks the shortest start Doubront has had since Sept. 1, 2012. Despite the shaky start,...

Red Sox Kick Off September on Positive Note, Ready to End Talk of Past Failures

BOSTON — The Red Sox are 1-0 in September. Maybe this team is different. The Red Sox have had a special season, to say the least, but there’s long been an elephant standing outside of Boston’s clubhouse: September. The Red Sox went 7-20 during their historic September collapse of 2011, only to follow up with a 7-22 end to 2012. That history has been enough to create a hint...

Peavy helps Red Sox beat White Sox

Jake Peavy's known for studying hitters. It certainly gave him an edge against his former teammates. Peavy pitched seven strong innings, Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits and the Boston Red Sox beat the Chicago White Sox 7-2 on Saturday night for their sixth win in seven games. Acquired in a three-team, seven-player deal July 30 that sent infielder Jose Iglesias to Detroit, Peavy...
