Jarrod Washburn was a left-handed pitcher for the Anaheim Angels, Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers between 1998-2009. His best year came in 2002, where he went 18-6 and had a career best 3.15 ERA for the Angels. However, Washburn experienced from postseason struggles that season. Washburn won his only ALDS start against the New York Yankees, and pitched extremely well in the ALCS against the Minnesota Twins (7.0 innings, 1 run, 6 hits, no decision), but the World Series against the San Francisco Giants was not too kind to him. In his two World Series starts, Washburn was 0-2 with a 9.31 ERA. However, the Angels were still able to hold on to win the series, and Washburn won his first and only World Series title. 2005 photo by Anne Ryan/USA TODAY The rest of his career did not turn out as well. Washburn had a 107-109 record for his career (89-103 if you take away his great 2002), and had an ERA of 4.10. Also, after 2002, Washburn only made two more postseason starts, where he went a combined 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA. After a brutal 2009, with the Mariners and the Tigers, Washburn retired. He now lives with his family in Webster, Wisconsin. Washburn will always hold a special place in my heart, because his card was in the first pack of baseball cards I ever received. So thank you Jarrod for (completely unintentionally) being a major part of my childhood. -Hollenberg
