Josh Hamilton hit a three-run homer during Texas' eight-run first inning, and Mike Napoli went deep for a fifth straight game to lead the Rangers to a 10-4 win over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader. Texas has won eight straight. The Rangers routed Detroit 10-3 on Thursday night in the first game of a four-game set. After a rainout Friday, they picked up where they'd left off, sending 12 men to the plate in the first against Rick Porcello (1-1). Matt Harrison (3-0) allowed three runs and six hits in 7 2-3 innings. He struck out six. Miguel Cabrera and Austin Jackson homered for the Tigers, who send Justin Verlander to the mound for the nightcap. Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre left the game after his second-inning double with a strained left hamstring. The Rangers improved their major league-best record to 12-2. They've scored 44 runs in their last four games, and this was the first time they allowed more than three during their winning streak. Texas is off to a 7-0 start on the road, and the Rangers' starting rotation is 10-0, both team records. Porcello entered his start with a 1.84 ERA. It was 6.32 by the time he left. He allowed nine runs - eight earned - and 10 hits before being pulled with nobody out and two on in the second. Ian Kinsler and Elvis Andrus started the game with a single and a walk before Hamilton lifted a towering home run deep into the right-field seats, his sixth of the season. After a single by Beltre, Michael Young hit a grounder to second baseman Brandon Inge. Beltre held up to avoid running into a tag, Inge threw wildly to first for an error and everybody was safe. Nelson Cruz hit an RBI single, and with one out, Mitch Moreland's single drove in two more runs to make it 6-0. Kinsler added a two-run triple for his second hit of the inning. Cruz hit another RBI single in the second before Porcello was lifted. After finishing Thursday's game with 19 hits, the Rangers had 14 in the first four innings Saturday and ended up with 17. Harrison had allowed only one run in 17 innings this season before the fourth, when Jackson connected and Delmon Young hit an RBI double. The Texas left-hander departed with a man on in the eighth, and Cabrera hit a two-run homer off Koji Uehara. Detroit's Duane Below, who relieved Porcello, pitched six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out four. Beltre hit a double in the second but was holding his left hamstring after pulling up at second. He is day to day. NOTES: Porcello's eight earned runs matched a career worst, and this was the shortest start of his career. ... Beltre hasn't missed a game this season, but he spent time on the disabled list last year with a left hamstring strain and was limited to 124 games in 2011.

Hamilton proving his worth to Rangers

When Josh Hamilton relapsed with alcohol shortly before spring training, the questions followed: Was the pressure of a contract year getting to him before the games began? Would the extension talks distract him and affect his 2012 performance? The answer: Hamilton is batting .426. Asked Thursday how he has remained locked in amid the uncertainty, the Texas Rangers' All-Star...

Line of the Day: Josh Hamilton

April 22, 2012: Josh Hamilton went 3-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and a stolen base while driving in the tying run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning of the Texas Rangers’ 3-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers. Contract Talk: Josh Hamilton

At the request of our very own Bob Owens, I thought I would introduce a topic that will be on everyone’s minds soon enough: Josh Hamilton’s upcoming free agency status. The Texas outfielder is one of the very best stories in the game, having overcome drug and alcohol addiction to win the 2010 MVP award and lead his team to the last two American League pennants. Since resurrecting his...

There’s a New Ranger in Town

3 HR's for Hamilton in the series It’s safe to say that this past series between the Texas Rangers and the Detroit Tigers is one that will try and be quickly forgotten. Coming into this series the Rangers were coming into Comerica Park winners of their past six games in a row. The Tigers had just come a sweep of the Kansas City Royals and winners of their last four. This series...

Texas Rangers Week in Review

In the first of what will be a weekly segment throughout this baseball season, I want to discuss something I said in my Rangers Preview a few weeks ago: Meanwhile, after Josh Hamilton’s relapse in February, I’m getting the feeling that this will be his last season in a Rangers uniform. The 2010 MVP has [...]

Rangers keep rolling in Detroit

Didn’t I say last night that Mike Napoli is hitting really well?  Yeah, well, he still is.  He hit his fifth home run in four games tonight.  I don’t even care that he ended up going 2 for 5 tonight. The boy is having a lot of fun out there. He wasn’t the only one. Every Ranger in the batting order had at least one hit tonight. Ian Kinsler, Michael Young and Nelson Cruz...
