Rangers rumors: Texas searching for starting pitcher

The Texas Rangers are scanning the free agent and trade markets for a starting pitcher, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Heyman notes that the Rangers have kept in contact with free agent starter Kyle Lohse, and they have been linked to Detroit Tigers right-hander Rick Porcello throughout the offseason. Pierzynski gives Texas West edge behind plate

The American League West isn't exactly a hot bed for catchers. The best catcher in the West in 2013 didn't even play in the division last year as Texas catcher A.J. Pierzynski came over from the Chicago White Sox via free agency. Pierzynski is the only No. 1 catcher in the division who caught more than half of his team's games last season, which is one of the reasons...

The long wait for Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Scott Baker is over. Baker made his 2013 Spring Training debut on Sunday, March 17, ending his time on the disabled list. Baker pitched only a third of an inning against the Oakland Athletics, allowing three runs on three hits in his first live competition since 2011.  Baker missed all of 2012 while recovering from Tommy...

Beltre still the best when it comes to West 3B

Adrian Beltre isn't just the best third baseman in the American League West. If you ask Texas manager Ron Washington, he's the best in the game. He doesn't have much competition in the West either, as every other team has some deficiencies at the hot corner. Here's a breakdown of third base in the West and the team rankings. Texas As good as Josh Hamilton was...

30-1 MLB countdown: #15 Rangers

As we move down to the top half of the 30-1 MLB countdown preview page, lets get one thing straight. While there could be some teams from 16-20 that can make legitimate pushes for a wild card spot, most of the first half of teams probably will not make a serious run. Of course this is my opinion, and I have been wrong before. But all teams from this point forward are good teams,...

Jeff Samardzija scattered three hits over five scoreless innings for a Chicago Cubs split squad in a 5-1 victory over the Texas Rangers on Saturday. Samardzija struck out three and walked one. The Cubs were unable to capitalize on Nate Schierholtz's leadoff double in the second, but they took a 1-0 lead after Steve Clevenger opened the third with a double and Darwin Barney...
