PLAYERS: Leonys Martin
TEAMS: Texas Rangers
This has to be every players worst nightmare when getting into the batters box, this and taking a pitch right to the head.  Texas Rangers center fielder Leonys Martin fouled off a pitch that took an awful bounce off the plate and hit him right in the junk.  Martin layed there for two minutes and eventually was able to get up. Rangers rumors: Texas seeking rotation upgrade

Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels admitted to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com that he will consider trading for starting pitching, but he's only interested in making an addition if it offers the team a significant upgrade to their current rotation candidates. Daniels also said that he likes his young crop of starting pitchers, a group that includes Justin Grimm, Martin ...

Berkman's knee sore after banging it exiting airplane

ARLINGTON, Texas Lance Berkman was out of the starting lineup for a second-consecutive day for the Texas Rangers. Berkman, who didn't start Thursday's series finale in New York, would have likely played in Friday's game if things had gone different following the team's plane ride home Thursday night. Berkman, who has been slowed by a balky right knee and recently...

Young Rangers provide heat in win over Reds

ARLINGTON, Texas -- When it's as hot as it was Friday in Texas, only kids are crazy enough to run around outside. Three of the Rangers' "kids" did just fine in a game that began with a first-pitch temperature of 100 degrees. Youngsters Martin Perez, Jurickson Profar and Leonys Martin stood out in the 4-0 win over the Reds. Perez had the biggest impact by throwing...

Holland throws third career complete game shutout

Engel Beltre had his first major league hit today, and Jurickson Profar had a pretty home run.  But they weren’t the stars of the day.  How about a standing ovation for Derek Holland? He went all nine innings, giving up just two hits and two walks.  He struck out seven.  And he only needed 92 pitches to finish his day.  The Rangers fans on my timeline were calling that a Maddux...

Derek Holland Tosses a Two Hit CG/SO

Derek Holland was spectacular as he allowed only two hits and two walks while striking out seven. The Yankees were not able to register an extra base hit against Holland and registered only two at-bats with runners in scoring position. Mike Trout continued to crush the Tigers, going 4/5 with a double and run. Patrick Corbin remains 9-0 after suffering another no decision.  Corbin...

Rangers 2, Yankees 0

Derek Holland tamed a team that often tagged him, pitching a two-hitter as the Texas Rangers finished up an impressive road trip by beating the New York Yankees 2-0 Thursday. Jurickson Profar homered and scored twice, while fellow rookie Engel Beltre got two hits in his first big league start. Texas went home leading the AL West after going 5-1 on its swing to St. Louis and Yankee...

Infield defense dazzles in 4-0 win

I don’t want to take away from what Martin Perez did on the mound.  Or what any of the players did with their bats.  But the Rangers’ infielders were the real stars of tonight’s game. Adrian Beltre, Jurickson Profar, Ian Kinsler, and Mitch Moreland put on a fantastic show tonight.  I just can’t even handle or begin to describe the beauty that was on display.  Two double...

Cruz, Beltre lead Rangers to win over Yankees

NEW YORK (AP) -- Nelson Cruz homered and the Texas Rangers got consecutive two-run doubles from Adrian Beltre and A.J. Pierzynski in an 8-5 victory over the New York Yankees on Wednesday night. Rangers rookie Justin Grimm pitched just well enough to beat Andy Pettitte, and the AL West leaders won for the seventh time in nine games following a six-game slide -- their longest of the...

Rangers 4, Reds 0

Martin Perez pitched six-hit ball into the seventh inning and the AL West-leading Texas Rangers beat the scuffling Cincinnati Reds 4-0 on Friday night. The Reds have lost three in a row, and six of seven. They also have more concerns about right-hander Johnny Cueto (4-2), their opening day starter already on the disabled list twice this season who left after a batter into the second...

Preview: Yankees vs Rangers (6/27/13)

The rubber match falls on Phil Hughes (3-6, 5.09 ERA) in the afternoon game against Derek Holland (5-4, 3.43 ERA) and the Rangers. Hughes is on extended rest, coming off seven days since his previous start, against the Dodgers. He struggled in that outing, allowing five runs on 10 hits over six innings in the 6-0 loss. In four career appearances (three starts) against Texas, Hughes...

Yankees Game 77: Bullpen can’t hold off Rangers

Joba Chamberlain could not figure it out, giving up two hits on four runs in tonight’s loss. (Photo by Mike Stobe/Getty Images) Texas Rangers 8 — New York Yankees 5   Bullpen is unable to keep the game close in tonight’s 8-5 loss to the Texas Rangers. The Yankees got the first lead off of rookie pitcher Justin Grimm in the second inning. Lyle Overbay hit his ninth home run...
