CHICAGO (AP) -- Rookie Josh Phegley singled home the winning run with two outs in the ninth inning to lift the Chicago White Sox to a 3-2 victory over the Texas Rangers on Saturday night. Texas had its four-game winning streak snapped and wasted another strong outing by Yu Darvish, who gave up two runs in seven innings while striking out 11. Avisail Garcia singled with one out and went to third on Dayan Viciedo's hit one out later. Phegley then hit a line shot to left off Tanner Scheppers (5-2) to end the game. Nate Jones (4-4) pitched an inning for the victory. Chicago trailed 2-0 before Adam Dunn hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning to tie it. Alex Rios had hit a two-run shot in the top half of the inning for the lead. NOTES: As part of the Civil Rights Game proceedings, Aretha Franklin and Bo Jackson were honored during the pregame ceremonies. Franklin couldn't attend and former Tigers great Willie Horton accepted in her honor. ... Before the game, White Sox manager Robin Ventura was asked how good Jackson might have been without the hip injury. "It's hard to describe him to people now of how strong, fast and smart of a baseball player he was," Ventura said. "He was good regardless. We'll never know, but I haven't seen anyone that's had his abilities since." Rangers RHP Nick Tepesch threw live batting practice on Saturday and reported no issues. ... RHP Matt Garza (9-2), a former Cub, makes his return to Chicago Sunday when he faces John Danks (3-10) in series finale.

Phegley walk-off single makes Sox 3-2 winners over Rangers

Josh Phegley got the Gatorade bath. The happy beating from his teammates. And a special something Gordon Beckham had learned from A.J. Pierzynski. Which was fitting because the former Sox catcher was behind the plate when Sox rookie catcher Phegley delivered the first game-ending hit of his career. Phegley’s two-out single in the ninth Saturday night scored Avisail Garcia to...

Chicago White Sox series against Rangers very intriguing

The White Sox continued a series winning streak on Sunday. Who knew passing out the lineup card in the beginning of a game could be so interesting.  Chicago White Sox bench coach Mark Parent was ejected during the ritualistic exchange of the lineup cards between the two teams and the four umpires on Sunday.    Apparently, Parent had a problem with some of the calls from the previous...

Chris Sale Aggressively Strikes Cooler in Dugout After Rough Outing Friday Night Against Rangers (GIF)

Chris Sale had one of his worst outings of the season Friday night, but after being taken out in the seventh inning he wasn’t quite ready to rest his tired arm. After allowing eight hits — four of which were home runs — and eight runs over seven innings against the Rangers, the left-hander was less than pleased with his performance. The 24-year-old walked off the diamond and...

Danks brothers team up to lead White Sox past Texas

From time to time Jordan Danks asks his brother John if he’s done any more “brother interviews.” Although it’s rare that two brothers find their way onto the same big-league team the Danks duo don’t figure to have anything new to say when asked about playing with each other for the umpteenth time. But that changed Sunday when Jordan hit a go-ahead home run in the fourth...

Hawk Harrelson didn’t know what the hell was going on during HR call (video)

Love him or hate him, Chicago White Sox broadcaster Hawk Harrelson is a national treasure and worthy of respect at the bare minimum. For those who disagree, the above funkified and fantastic photo of Hawk (full photo here) from his playing days should learn ya a thing or two about the guy. Sure, the abject confusion […]The post Hawk Harrelson didn’t know what the hell was going...

Ian Kinsler's unbelievable hidden ball inside-the-park home run

It's a lesson every kid learns day one in Little League — the play isn't over until the umpire makes a call. Chicago White Sox leftfielder Dayan Viciedo finally learned that lesson to his dismay. A ground ball down the left-field line eluded Vicedo and got lost behind the wall allowing Ian Kinsler to round the bases for a bizarre inside-the-park homer. While logic...
