The Texas Rangers not only lost last night’s contest to the Oakland Athletics, but they also lost outfielder Nelson Cruz to what appeared to be a leg injury, according to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com. Cruz appeared to sustain the injury in the eighth inning of the contest while running out a ground ball. As of last night, it wasn’t clear exactly what part of Cruz’s body was ailing, but Sullivan speculates that the injury could be related to a bruised left quad the slugger has been dealing with since Tuesday. The ailment caused Cruz to exit Tuesday’s contest early, and he appeared to be limping after making a running catch in the fifth inning yesterday. While he’s dealt with injuries throughout his career, Cruz has been uncharacteristically healthy this season. He’s also been productive, hitting .269/.330/.506 with 18 doubles and 26 home runs over 448 plate appearances. Of course, injury isn’t the only thing that could keep Cruz out of the Rangers’ lineup. He is one of several players expected to be suspended by MLB in connection with Biogenesis. Follow @mlbinjurynews Looking for fantasy baseball advice?

Suspension talk not keeping Nelson Cruz out of lineup

Manager Ron Washington continues to write Nelson Cruz's name in the Texas Rangers' lineup and intends to do so until he hears otherwise. Cruz is one of several big leaguers linked in the Biogenesis of America scandal as the now defunct anti-aging clinic in South Florida reportedly supplied him and others with banned substances. There have been multiple reports that MLB intends...

Rangers respond to Cruz loss with another win over Angels

ANAHEIM, Calif. The Texas Rangers have a message for those that left the team for dead after news of Nelson Cruz's 50-game suspension came on Monday: They can still win without him. The Rangers downed the Angels 5-2 Monday night, at Angel Stadium, doing so without their All-Star right fielder. Cruz, who led the team in home runs (27) and RBIs (76), was suspended for 50 games...

On the Oakland series and Cruz suspension

My apologies for not blogging during the Oakland series.  Friday night’s game got over really late, and now that I’m a working woman, it was all I could do to stay awake for the whole game.  Composing my thoughts afterward was not happening.  And then I only saw snippets of Saturday’s and Sunday’s games. But here are some quick thoughts I have about the series … - It...

Rangers beat Angels after Cruz suspension

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- The Texas Rangers realize the rest of their regular season won't be the same after bidding farewell to Nelson Cruz. Their dominance of the Los Angeles Angels is still business as usual -- and this time, they didn't even need a late homer to do it. Adrian Beltre homered, Martin Perez pitched into the seventh inning, and the Rangers beat the Angels...

Perez turns in another strong start, Rangers deliver without Cruz in lineup

The loss of Nelson Cruz is going to bite the Texas Rangers’ offense at some point over the next few months but nothing much has changed for the five pitchers in the starting rotation. After all runs have been hard to come by much of the season. Their task is to give their team a chance something they have done as well as any team’s rotation of late and something Martin Perez...

A Nelson Cruz and Jhonny Peralta Suspension FAQ

For a while, Biogenesis didn’t exist. Then for a while, Biogenesis did exist, but we didn’t know anything about it. Then we started to know a lot about it, and in particular a lot about its distribution of performance-enhancing drugs, but it didn’t seem like baseball would be able to hand out much in the way of discipline. Then it seemed like baseball would be able to deliver...

Six games back of West-leading Oakland last week, the...

All five have come in the aftermath of a 45-minute team meeting Sunday in...

Baseball hands down suspensions

This has been dragged out for a while, but for players like Nelson Cruz and Jhonny Peralta, they’ve accepted a 50-game ban that starts immediately. A-Rod was banned for 211 games through the end of the 2014 season, but he’s fighting it so A-Rod is expected to play for the Yankees tonight. It was hard to imagine a player who could be hated more than Barry Bonds, but Alex Rodriguez...

Rangers 4, Athletics 0

Derek Holland gave up four hits in eight stellar innings, Nelson Cruz and Mitch Moreland each hit a home run and Ron Washington became the winningest manager in Rangers history as Texas beat the Oakland Athletics 4-0 on Sunday.
