Found September 01, 2009 on MLB Trade Rumors:
The Rangers have designated former top prospect Thomas Diamond for assignment according to MLB.com's T.R Sullivan, while WEEI's Rod Bradford reports that the Red Sox did the same to Jeff Bailey. Both moves were made to free up 40-man roster spots for younger players receiving September callups. Diamond, 26, has battled arm injuries throughout his career and has thrown just 435 innings in the minors since being Texas' first round pick in 2004. Bailey, 30, owns a career .228/.340/.434 batting line in 159 plate appearances in the big leagues, but he's spent most of the last five years in Triple-A. Interestingly, the Red Sox would not have had to DFA Bailey if not for the Yankees claiming Chris Carter last week.
