PLAYERS: Jon Daniels
TEAMS: Texas Rangers
Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels admitted to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com that he will consider trading for starting pitching, but he's only interested in making an addition if it offers the team a significant upgrade to their current rotation candidates. Daniels also said that he likes his young crop of starting pitchers, a group that includes Justin Grimm, Martin Perez, Nick Tepesch and Josh Lindblom. Texas is also poised to hold off on making a significant addition to their starting rotation until more is known regarding the statuses of Colby Lewis and Alexi Ogando, who are both currently on the disabled list recovering from injuries. The Rangers hold the top spot in the American League West despite the fact that their rotation has combined to log only 36 quality starts this season, which ranks 21st in the majors. Yu Darvish and Derek Holland have been solid, as was Ogando prior to his injury, but Matt Harrison was expected atop the rotation and there could be room for improvement when it comes to Tepesch and Grimm. Just how much improvement and what that level of improvement will cost the Rangers will determine whether or not the team makes a trade for a starter this summer. Rumors list Cliff Lee (could they acquire him again?), Bud Norris, Matt Garza, Ricky Nolasco and former Rangers starter Scott Feldman as some of the more popular potentially-available arms this summer. Foul ball catches Leonys Martin in bad place

This has to be every players worst nightmare when getting into the batters box, this and taking a pitch right to the head.  Texas Rangers center fielder Leonys Martin fouled off a pitch that took an awful bounce off the plate and hit him right in the junk.  Martin layed there for two minutes and eventually was able to get up. Berkman's knee sore after banging it exiting airplane

ARLINGTON, Texas Lance Berkman was out of the starting lineup for a second-consecutive day for the Texas Rangers. Berkman, who didn't start Thursday's series finale in New York, would have likely played in Friday's game if things had gone different following the team's plane ride home Thursday night. Berkman, who has been slowed by a balky right knee and recently...

Texas Rangers Outfielder Leonys Martin Takes One For the Team

When you are young it is important to do what you can for the team. You have to give them a reason to want to keep you on the big league roster--otherwise it's back to the minors! Most of the time it will mean making a big play or a clutch hit to win, but sometimes it can just be showing you are one tough SOB. Like Texas Rangers outfielder Leonys Martin did Wednesday night...

Rangers' Alexi Ogando still not 100%

Texas Rangers right-handed starting pitcher Alexi Ogando made it out of Tuesday's bullpen session pain-free, lining himself up for another tomorrow. While that's certainly good news, Ogando told T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com that he still doesn't feel 100 percent. "It's getting better but it's not there yet," Ogando said. "It's probably about...

Holland, Rangers blank Yanks

As the outs piled up, the little voice in Derek Holland's head kept getting louder. ''You can execute this pitch! You can throw it!'' the Texas left-hander told himself, over and over. ''You're going to make this pitch!'' He certainly did. Holland tamed a team that often tagged him, tossing a two-hitter as the Rangers finished up an impressive...

Holland throws third career complete game shutout

Engel Beltre had his first major league hit today, and Jurickson Profar had a pretty home run.  But they weren’t the stars of the day.  How about a standing ovation for Derek Holland? He went all nine innings, giving up just two hits and two walks.  He struck out seven.  And he only needed 92 pitches to finish his day.  The Rangers fans on my timeline were calling that a Maddux...

Derek Holland Tosses a Two Hit CG/SO

Derek Holland was spectacular as he allowed only two hits and two walks while striking out seven. The Yankees were not able to register an extra base hit against Holland and registered only two at-bats with runners in scoring position. Mike Trout continued to crush the Tigers, going 4/5 with a double and run. Patrick Corbin remains 9-0 after suffering another no decision.  Corbin...

Jurickson Profar homered and scored twice, while fellow rookie Engel Beltre got two hits in his first big league start. Texas went home leading the AL West after going 5-1 on its swing to St. Louis and Yankee...

Preview: Yankees vs Rangers (6/27/13)

The rubber match falls on Phil Hughes (3-6, 5.09 ERA) in the afternoon game against Derek Holland (5-4, 3.43 ERA) and the Rangers. Hughes is on extended rest, coming off seven days since his previous start, against the Dodgers. He struggled in that outing, allowing five runs on 10 hits over six innings in the 6-0 loss. In four career appearances (three starts) against Texas, Hughes...
