The Rangers and Tigers were rained out Friday night, but that didn’t seem to bother the Rangers’ bats or Matt Harrison at all. I forgot today’s first game started at noon, so I missed the first three runs they scored in the 1st inning.  But they weren’t done.  I saw the next five.  And enjoyed each one.  It was crazy fun.  I was wondering how they could keep that up over nine innings. They didn’t.  But that’s OK. The rest of the game was pretty uneventful. The Tigers tried to get into the game, but Matt Harrison wasn’t about to waste the offense’s generous offerings.  He issued no walks and gave up just three runs on six hits over 7.2 innings.  Although, to be fair, one of those runs scored on Koji Uehara’s watch, when he allowed a two-run home run to Miguel Cabrera.  Ugh. Koji. Mike Napoli waited until his final at bat to get a hit, but he made it count.  A home run to left.  Elvis Andrus was the only hitless Ranger, although he did earn a walk.  Everyone else (except Napoli) ha

Q&A: Mitch Moreland: Future Reliever?

A number of big-league position players were once pitchers. Blessed with strong arms, they excelled on the mound, as well as at the plate, against amateur competition. Only a few would be able to return to the hill with any chance of success against professional hitters. Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland is among them. In high school, Moreland logged a record of 25-2 and in his...

Ross gets another win as Rangers take series

Robbie Ross has to be loving this road trip. He’s earned three wins out of the bullpen. The whole team should be happy with this road trip.  Nine wins in ten games in Minnesota, Boston and Detroit.  I’ll take it. There’s really no reason Colby Lewis didn’t earn a win. He only gave up two runs on seven hits over seven innings.  It was a fine outing. He kept the Tigers as...

Tigers, Rangers rained out

Jim Leyland is as impressed with the Texas Rangers as he was during last year's playoffs. ''They're such a tremendously solid team in all areas - starting pitching, defense, bullpen, offense,'' the Detroit manager said Friday. ''They're a very good team, top to bottom. They have a lot of nice weapons, they have a lot of versatility. They're...

Game 2012.16: Rangers at Tigers

Good pitching beats good hitting. Or maybe the adage should be superior pitching meets incredible hitting. On a day when JV did not have his best stuff, he demonstrated why he’s the best pitcher in baseball by shutting down baseball’s best offense and ending the Rangers’ 8 game winning streak. Ron Washington said after the game “We didn’t lose, we got beat.” + 1. JV...

Game 2012.15: Rangers at Tigers

Well, that was quick.  The Rangers put the game away with 8 runs in the first inning before a stunned Rick Porcello could even record a second out.  The Rangers rolled to their 8th straight, beating Detroit 10-4, and have now outscored them 20-7 so far this series. If there was a bright spot for the Tigers, it was another great outing by Duane Below, who threw 6 scoreless innings...
