The Tampa Bay Rays and outfielder David DeJesus agreed to a two-year contract extension, which covers 2014 and 2015 with a club option for 2016. The deal is worth a guaranteed 10.5 million, and it replaces the 2014 club option the Rays exercised Sunday. DeJesus, 33, was acquired from the Washington Nationals on Aug. 23. He played in 35 of the Rays' 38 games and started in 26 contests, each against right-handed pitching. He batted .251 with eight homers and 38 RBI in a combined 122 games with the Chicago Cubs, Nationals and Rays in 2013. "These guys play the game the right way," DeJesus said after he was signed in August. "When you play against the Rays, you've got to make sure every out is staying accounted for because they come at you. ... 'Keep being yourself.' I've heard it four or five times already. Just go out there and play the game the right way. I think we'll be a good fit." The 11-year veteran made his first postseason appearance with Tampa Bay. He's a career .279 hitter with a .353 on-base percentage, 88 homers and 61 triples. You can follow Andrew Astleford on Twitter @aastleford or email him at aastleford@gmail.com.
