After two misses earlier in the game the Tampa Bay Rays ball boy was due. On a line drive off the bat of Matt Joyce in the bottom of the sixth inning, he makes a great catch and gets a rousing ovation. The Rays bullpen first scattered to “protect” themselves and then it was high fives all-around. Not only are the Rays starters giving the bullpen a much needed rest in July, now the ball boy is doing to his part to save the bully. The Rays went on to beat Arizona 5-2 behind a complete game by Roberto Hernandez

The Tampa Bay Rays bullpen ball boy, who goes by the name of R.J., had a couple costly misplays during last night’s Rays-Diamondbacks game. One of those misses got by R.J. and wound up striking a Rays pitcher in the face, causing the rest of the bullpen to be on high alert for the rest of the game. Hernandez, Rays keep rolling with 5-2 win over Arizona

He threw strikes got outs on ground balls and gave his team a chance to win which is everything the Tampa Bay Rays wanted from Roberto Hernandez when they signed him as a free agent in the offseason. Even so he could have made his last start for a while. Hernandez who appears to be the odd man out when the Rays go to a four-man rotation for the first half of August turned in...

Hard Hittin’ Mark Whiten Memorial Player of the Week

Everyone has Wil Myers pegged as the next big thing. I don’t know, I’m lukewarm on the guy. He’s going to be a serviceable big league player who has a long and productive career. But I’m not sure he’s ticketed to be a star. However, there was nothing lukewarm about his past week in the game. Playing in games 29 through 33 in his big league career, Myers amassed a .455/...
