Right-handed reliever Brandon Gomes, who was on track to rejoin the Rays next week, was scheduled to throw his second rehab inning for Class A Charlotte on Thursday but felt discomfort in his strained right lat and is sidelined indefinitely according to Tampa Bay Times Staff Writer Marc Topkin.
Manager Joe Maddon said Gomes was to be re-evaluated today. If he strained it again, he could be out another month.
"Gomer felt more sore than he had been when he was warming up to pitch," manager Joe Maddon said Saturday. "It was a little bit of a setback. He'll be re-evaluated to see where he's at. The soreness did pick up a notch. To that point, everything was going along swimmingly. He was doing good."
Gomes was injured while warming up Thursday for what was supposed to be his second to last rehab appearance.
