Right-hander Chris Archer will start Saturday for the Tampa Bay Rays against the Cleveland Indians, the team announced Thursday night.
Archer, 24, is 5-3 with a 3.96 ERA in 10 starts for Triple-A Durham this season. He has given up 50 hits and six home runs.
Archer has six major league appearances (four starts), all with the Rays in 2012. He has a 1-3 record with a 4.60 ERA in 29 13 innings in the majors.
A corresponding roster move will be made at a later time.
The Rays (29-24) have won five consecutive games, after a 5-2 victory over the Miami Marlins on Thursday night at Marlins Park. Tampa Bay is two games into an eight-game road trip that includes future stops in Cleveland (Friday to Sunday) and Detroit (Tuesday to Thursday).
