ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Tampa Bay Rays left-hander David Price verbally apologized for his Twitter rant that he said "embarrassed his organization" after a loss to the Boston Red Sox in Game 2 of the American League Division Series. Early Sunday morning, after he allowed seven runs and nine hits in the Red Sox's 7-4 victory at Fenway Park, he criticized members of TBS' broadcast team online. He said former right-hander Dirk Hayhurst, who appeared in 25 major league games for the San Diego Padres and Toronto Blue Jays, "COULDNT hack it" and added that Tom Verducci, a noted baseball analyst, "wasn't even a water boy in high school." "I'd like to start this by sending a deep apology to everyone here that has been affected throughout my actions after the game against Boston," Price said Monday before Game 3 between the Rays and Red Sox at Tropicana Field. "That's not the way anybody should handle themselves at any time....

Well, it appears that one of the best in the game will be available. Tampa Bay...

Rays rumors: David Price expected to be traded

The feeling around the clubhouse is that the low-payroll Tampa Bay Rays will somehow find a way to retain left-handed starting pitcher David Price, who’s poised to get big money on the free-agent market or through a lucrative long-term extension. There are others, specifically nine unnamed baseball executives which Joel Sherman of The New York Post interviewed, that don'...

A Candid Discussion About David Price And The Mets

Joel Sherman of the New York Post spoke with nine executives who think the Rays will trade their starting pitcher David Price this offseason. The scouts’ consensus was that the Rangers, Cubs and D-Backs were the favorites for successfully dealing for the elite 28-year old righthander. We had an email conversation about him late last night and this morning, and discussed whether...

Joe Maddon Expects to See ‘Better Judgment’ From David Price in Future After Twitter Fiasco

David Price was a little shaken after losing Game 2 in Boston on Saturday. That was obvious to anyone who read his Twitter feed. Price had a mini social media meltdown after the Rays lost 7-4 to fall into an 0-2 hole in the best-of-five ALDS. He rattled off a series of tweets in which he promoted his baseball accolades and sounded rather immature. The pitcher later apologized for...

David Price rips David Ortiz for admiring home run

David Price did not take his ALDS Game 2 loss to the Boston Red Sox in stride on Saturday. The Tampa Bay Rays ace allowed seven runs over seven innings and was taken deep twice by David Ortiz. Big Papi’s second home run was a towering shot in the eighth inning that wrapped around the […]

David Price allows 7 runs, Rays fall to Red Sox in Game 2

BOSTON (AP) -- David Ortiz homered twice, the second shot chasing David Price in the eighth inning on Saturday night, and the Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 7-4 to take a 2-0 lead in the AL division series. Sox Win Game Two: In Ortiz (and Everyone Else) We Trust

I’ll admit, I was no fun to be around last night during game two of the ALDS. For one thing, I was washing down Hostess Twinkies with Michelob Ultra, meaning that sugar and alcohol spent the better part of the night battling over which could make me a bigger asshole. For another, I had an unshakable sense that something was going to go wrong for the Sox. That the Rays were folding...

Rays' piecemeal pitching plan comes up short vs. Red Sox

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- As the final seconds of the Tampa Bay Rays' season passed, David Price warmed up in the bullpen. This was the bottom of the ninth inning, with little chance that the ace left-hander would be used in extra innings because Boston Red Sox closer Koji Uehara was closing in on his second save of this American League Division Series. Still, the image was more...

Red Sox rewrite the post-season rulebook

Over the past few years of playoff baseball, fans have come to understand that their are a couple of rules when it comes to playoff baseball. 1. The hottest team will tend to win in the short series’ 2. The best starting pitcher will make the difference in the series. 3. Three man rotations are the keys to winning a series. 4.
