The Red Sox are struggling. Mightily. Losers of seven of eight and just 3-11 in September, Boston has seen their AL Wild Card lead shrink to nine games to three in a matter of two weeks.

The Rays banged around Sox starter Kyle Weiland for four runs before he was sent to the showers after three innings. Tampa Bay also took advantage of poor pitching by Franklin Morales and Matt Albers, for two and three runs, respectively.

The big blasts came off the bats of Evan Longoria (three-run shot), Casey Kotchman (two-run dinger), and B.J Upton (two-run homer).

Jeremy Hellickson silenced Boston’s bats for 5 2/3 innings, allowing just one run of three hits.

Josh Beckett gets the ball tomorrow looking to be the stopper the Sox desperately need.
