On Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Rays officially announced the signing of Roberto Hernandez. Both sides agreed to a one-year contract worth $3.25 million. Hernandez, better known as Fausto Carmona, is a seven year veteran. His career ERA sits at 4.64 with a record of 53-69. He had his best season in 2007 with the Cleveland Indians when he went 19-8 with a 3.06 ERA and helped lead the Indians to the playoffs. He was arrested last year in the Dominican Republic for false identification while attempting to obtain a visa. Hernandez would make it back to the states in July and Major League Baseball suspended him for three weeks. Executive vice president of baseball Andrew Friedman feels this deal could be a plus for the team as he can be working out of the bullpen or become a part of the rotation. Hernandez’s 2012 campaign was not impressive as he allowed 12 runs in over 14 innings before spraining his ankle in August. He may end up being a body to add for depth, but can also be a steal if he comes close to pitching how he did in 2007. The post Rays officially sign Roberto Hernandez appeared first on The Bay Cave.
