Found May 02, 2013 on Midwest Sports Fans:
When the Milwaukee Brewers acquired Zack Greinke from the Kansas City Royals in late 2010, it was a sign that the Brewers were going “all in” for the 2011 season. The haul they gave up appeared costly at the time, headlined by Milwaukee’s starting shortstop and defensive whiz Alcides Escobar. They also threw in outfielder Lorenzo Cain, and pitchers Jeremy Jeffress and Jake Odorizzi. As a Brewers fan, I remember not really caring about what they had to give up to get Greinke, as it signaled a commitment to winning from the front office. And it put Milwaukee in contention for the National League Central crown. That division title came in 2011, as the Brewers posted a franchise-best 96-66 record, and Greinke posted a 16–6 record with a 3.83 ERA and 201 strikeouts. Milwaukee began to falter in the summer of 2012, and traded Greinke to the Angels on the heels of a seven-game losing streak that saw the Brewers fall from a salvageable 44-47 to 10 games under .500. The deals that brought Z...

MILWAUKEE -- Following Thursday night's 6-5 loss to St. Louis, the Milwaukee Brewers optioned outfielder Josh Prince to Triple-A Nashville to clear room for Aramis Ramirez's return from the disabled list Friday. Peralta unlucky as Cardinals bat around in third inning

MILWAUKEE -- It was just one of those days for Wily Peralta. One inning filled with a whole lot of bad luck left him with a pitching line unworthy of how he pitched. While Peralta didn't pitch great, he didn't deserve to give up six runs and 11 hits in just 4 13 innings. The Cardinals scored all six of their runs in a 6-5 victory off Peralta with two outs in the third inning...

Gonzalezs short-term memory has served him well

MILWAUKEE -- The game of baseball offers quite a few moments that are bizarre and sometimes just plain unlucky. Michael Gonzalez's relief pitching debut with the Brewers on April 3 certainly qualified as both. After Gonzalez walked the leadoff hitter, a perfect bunt single followed putting two on with nobody out. Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez followed with a broken bat...

Brewers look to turn the tide on Cardinals

While Adam Wainwright has had plenty of success against the Milwaukee Brewers, Yovani Gallardo hasn't been able to figure out why the St. Louis Cardinals give him so much trouble. St. Louis seeks a fifth straight win Saturday while sending host Milwaukee to a fourth consecutive defeat. Wainwright (4-2, 2.03 ERA) has gotten off to a solid start, striking out 43 while walking...

Brewers try to avoid third straight loss at Miller Park

Although they've been one of the top hitting teams in the majors at home, the Milwaukee Brewers are being tested by the St. Louis Cardinals' red-hot starting pitchers. It doesn't figure to get any easier against a 22-year-old rookie who dominated them earlier this season. Shelby Miller will try to provide the NL Central -leading Cardinals with yet another outstanding...

First Pitch: The Road to Contending Goes Through Milwaukee

For the past two years I’ve had the same thought about the Milwaukee Brewers and what they say about the Pirates’ chances. The thought is always “if the Pirates can beat the Brewers, they’ll show they are legit this year”. Last year the Pirates went 4-11 against Milwaukee, including a 1-8 record in the final two months of the season. They went 3-6 on the road at Miller...

Pirates 6, Brewers 4

THOSE were the Pirates we came to know and love during the past few weeks. After falling behind yet again at Miller Park, the Bucs pulled off a big comeback and managed to shut Milwaukee down late to get out of Wisconsin with a rare victory. Jeanmar Gomez‘s start went about how most expected it to go. He labored early on and only managed to go four innings and gave up a couple...
