The Red Sox keep finding new ways to win. Already leading baseball with ten walkoffs on the year, Boston notched its 11th tonight at Fenway with a remarkable six-run 9th to overcome a 7-2 lead and a start by Felix Hernandez to defeat the Seattle Mariners 8-7. Like many long innings, the bottom of the 9th started with a walk. Daniel Nava coaxed the walk out of Seattle closer Tom Wilhelmsen (AKA one of my fantasy relievers, AKA someone I now hate). Wilhelmsen was rattled and couldn't retire a batter -- after Nava, Lavarnway singled, Brock Holt doubled, and Jacoby Ellsbury walked before the Mariners decided, hey, maybe Wilhelmsen doesn't have it tonight. Oliver Perez came in looking to get the meat of the order under control -- and failed. Shane Victorino and Dustin Pedroia both singled, putting the Sox down 7-6 with Senor Clutch David Ortiz up and nobody out. Papi tried to hit the ball 12,000 feet, and promptly struck out. The Mariners took out Perez (cause, hey, congratulations, you got a batter out, Ollie!) and Jonny Gomes stepped to the plate. As he is wont to do he worked the count, got a questionable call one what could have been strike three, and dispatched a single to center, tying the game up.  The ninth man to come to the plate was last night's hero, Stephen Drew. Sensing the excitement of the moment as any Drew would, Stephen walked. Hey, we'll take it, because that brought up the guy who started things off. Nava returned to the batter's box and ripped a single to plate Dustin Pedroia and end the game. I had planned on writing about how the Sox can't compete with elite pitching and how they needed to make up a phantom injury for Ryan Dempster to get some rest. This was more fun. By the way, according to @RedSoxStats, the Mariners had a 99.4% chance of winning this game going into the bottom of the 9th (the above image with win probabilities was also tweeted by that account). This may be luck, or unsustainable, or whatever, but it sure beats last year. Box score
