Laynce Nix doubled home the go-ahead run in the seventh inning, as the Philadelphia Phillies' offense erupted late in an 8-2 win over the New York Mets on Sunday afternoon.
Ty Wigginton preceded Nix's double with a game-tying sacrifice fly and added a three-run double as part of a five-run eighth inning that featured a critical defensive miscue.
Jimmy Rollins and Hunter Pence each had two hits, an RBI and scored twice for the Phillies, who had totaled just 20 runs in their first eight games of the season.
A two-run homer by New York's Ike Davis was among the six hits allowed by Cole Hamels (1-1). The left-hander recorded 10 strikeouts over seven innings.
Mike Pelfrey limited the Phillies to a run on eight hits in six frames.

Philadelphia Phillies storyline: doctored baseball
Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Phillies was in complete control after the 1st, and this is considered the MLB norm? However, elsewhere in the starter-dominated competition, some of the better rotations are floundering. Why are my eyes deceiving my ears and my preconceived notions?

Hamels Wins as Phillies Find Their Offense

In 7 innings, Hamels collected 10 strikeouts and allowed just 6 hits and one walk. The defense stayed strong...
Ike Homers, But Phillies Avoid The Sweep With 8-2 Win Over Mets
Ike Davis got the Mets off to a quick start with this two run shot in the first inning off Cole Hamels to put the Mets up 2-0 over the Phillies this afternoon at CBP. But that would be all the scoring in the game for the Mets as they fell to Phillies 8-2
Mike Pelfrey started and tossed six innings while working himself in and out of trouble. Luckily, he allowed just one run after...

Mets are just spoiling us with all this offense including the homeruns.
