Laynce Nix doubled home the go-ahead run in the seventh inning, as the Philadelphia Phillies' offense erupted late in an 8-2 win over the New York Mets on Sunday afternoon.
Ty Wigginton preceded Nix's double with a game-tying sacrifice fly and added a three-run double as part of a five-run eighth inning that featured a critical defensive miscue.
Jimmy Rollins and Hunter Pence each had two hits, an RBI and scored twice for the Phillies, who had totaled just 20 runs in their first eight games of the season.
A two-run homer by New York's Ike Davis was among the six hits allowed by Cole Hamels (1-1). The left-hander recorded 10 strikeouts over seven innings.
Mike Pelfrey limited the Phillies to a run on eight hits in six frames.
The Mets were seeking their fir...

Cole Hamels looked great as Phils cruise late. Photo: APThe Phils were on the doorstep all day. The Fightins put together 8 hits and 2 walks through 6 before a little bit of luck and some good hitting put them ahead for the first time in 24.2 innings. Jimmy Rollins and Hunter Pence singled back to back and advanced to third and second respectively on a Ramon Ramirez wild pitch...
Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Phillies was in complete control after the 1st, and this is considered the MLB norm? However, elsewhere in the starter-dominated competition, some of the better rotations are floundering. Why are my eyes deceiving my ears and my preconceived notions?

I can’t remember who is was, but over the weekend someone made a very interesting comment regarding Ike Davis. The comment was “Ike has probably never started a season as poorly as his has this season in his entire life”. This comment is very interesting because it is probably very true.
Davis is in just his 3rd professional season, but he has been successful up to this point...
When Cole Hamels allowed two runs in the first inning of today’s game, you could almost hear the collective, “Here we go again…” spilling from the minds of everyone present at the ballpark. But as it turned out, that was all the Mets would score for the entire game.
In 7 innings, Hamels collected 10 strikeouts and allowed just 6 hits and one walk. The defense stayed strong...
Ike Davis got the Mets off to a quick start with this two run shot in the first inning off Cole Hamels to put the Mets up 2-0 over the Phillies this afternoon at CBP. But that would be all the scoring in the game for the Mets as they fell to Phillies 8-2
Mike Pelfrey started and tossed six innings while working himself in and out of trouble. Luckily, he allowed just one run after...
Clearly, one deep-in-the-game arm is Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Phillies. How does Miami compare after their ace has worked? The Apocalyptic Horsemen Stats are in my daily coverage.

Mets are just spoiling us with all this offense including the homeruns. Ike Davis with a three-run homerun to break the game open, and after Jason Bay robbed the Braves of a homerun, hit one himself deep in center field for a solo shot and an insurance run. Broken fingers seem to be helping the Mets.
Dillon Gee had a great start this afternoon allowing only one run on four...

Cole Hamels pitched seven strong innings and Ty Wigginton drove in four runs, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to an 8-2 win over the New York Mets on Sunday.
Hamels (1-1) struck out 10 to help the Phillies avoid a three-game sweep at home against the Mets for the first time since June 13-15, 2006. It was the 19th career double-digit strikeout game for Hamels.

The Phils, as they score seven runs in their last two at-bats, reward Cole Hamels’ strong start as they salvage a victory as they beat the Mets, 8-2.
