All Star Game Highlights
The American League beat the National League 3-0 in the 2013 midsummer classic. The game was dominated by pitching, as the National League only managed three hits.
The American League scored two runs on a sacrifice fly and a fielder’s choice. The AL added a run in the 8th inning against Craig Kimbrel, an RBI double by Jason Kipnis.
The best moment was in the eighth inning, when Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” blasted over the speakers as Mariano Rivera entered his last All Star Game ever. He walked on the field alone, as both dugouts gave him a standing ovation, sending goosebumps across the baseball nation. Rivera tossed a 1-2-3 inning, and earned the MVP honors.
Lee Surrenders a Run
Cliff Lee appeared in the fifth inning, tossing 32 pitches. He got himself into some trouble, but was able to get out of the jam with just one run.
He allowed a lead-off double to Adam Jones, who eventually scored on a fielder’s choice. Joe Mauer followed Jones with a base hi...

While Cliff Lee was being introduced in front of the Citi Field crowd before the 2013 All Star Game, Lee unleashed this death stare towards the camera. Lighten up, dude.
One of the strengths of the 2013 Philadelphia Phillies was supposed to be the quality starting pitching. With Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels at the front of the rotation, that much should go without saying. Kyle Kendrick and free-agent pick-up John Lannan provided the Phillies with a decent enough back-end of the rotation as well. Of course, two starting pitchers would land...
Roy Halladay apparanetly feels as good as he did 10 years ago as he works his comeback trail and ponders future with Phillies according to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com.
When Roy Halladay announced he’d be having surgery on his right shoulder, he said his doctor’s hope was that the procedure could help Halladay “turn back the clock.”
And according to Roy's wife, all is...
Before the season, most people picked the Philadelphia Phillies to finish third in the NL East behind the Nationals and Braves. Some picked them second, but those expecting the Phillies to return to the playoffs were few and far between. So here we are at the All-Star Break, and while the Phillies *are* third in the division, they're only 6.5 games out of first, and just a half...
After the All-Star festivities end tonight, Cliff Lee, Domonic Brown and the rest of the Phils have plenty of work to do. (AP Photo)
As I opined last week, gauging where you stand on the Phillies can hinge on what day you check in on this ambivalent bunch. Nowhere is it more visible than within the Philadelphia media, where readers are bombarded with recurring “buy” and “sell”...
The Philadelphia Phillies gained one player but lost another as they activated catcher Erik Kratz from the 15-day disabled list while placing outfielder Ben Revere on it with a right foot fracture.
Kratz looks to be the third catcher as Carlos Ruiz is a bit banged up where as Revere does not have a timetable set for his return, but a minimum of a month is the early prognosis.
Phillies center fielder Ben Revere has undergone surgery to repair his right foot, which he broke in the first game of the double header on Saturday against the Chicago White Sox. Revere's surgery involved getting two screws placed in his foot according to Todd Zolecki:
Ben Revere's surgery complete. Dr. Steve Raikin placed 2 screws across the fracture. Tentative...
Tonight the New York Mets will host their first All-Star Game since 1964 in Shea Stadium. That game has a rather special Phillies moment of course, which leaves me wondering if Domonic Brown or Cliff Lee might play a part in another bankable moment in franchise history. It's hard for me to believe the Mets have only hosted the All Star Game once before this season, while the...
When the Philadelphia Phillies announced Ben Revere's broken right ankle, the center fielder told reporters that he could miss six to eight weeks as a result of the injury. He was spot on regarding the diagnosis, as the Phillies announced the same timeframe today, adding Revere will undergo surgery on his ailing ankle tomorrow, according to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com.
Any way you slice it, the Philadelphia Phillies' chances of making a remarkable comeback took a hit last week when center fielder Ben Revere fouled a ball off of his foot, resulting in a break that would require surgery to repair and place him on the shelf for the next...
I am not really sure what to make of the Phillies starting infield this season, other than the fact that it is aging and breaking down frequently enough that an argument to shake things up and get younger now is completely valid if the right pieces are available. I have already spoken my mind on how to address the Ryan Howard situation. As much as I respect what Jimmy Rollins and...
Recently, Phillies Nation TV headed out to the Class A South Atlantic League All-Star events in Lakewood, NJ to attend the Celebrity Hitting Challenge that was hosted at FirstEnergy Park by the BlueClaws. The “Clawstar Spectacular”, as it was called, featured the likes of former players Matt Stairs and Dwight Gooden along with comedian Artie Lange, who were all featured in interviews...
The Phillies are the definition of average, having played .500 ball over the first half of the season. Yes, I know technically the season is past the mid-point, but the All-Star break serves as an easy divider, so don't go getting all numerically uppity on me. Important baseball awaits the Phils in the second half, with Amaro planting his feet on the side of the "we are...
Some Philadelphia Phillies fans thought that the team should have kept outfielder Juan Pierre. With Ben Revere out 6-8 weeks after surgery on his foot, bringing Pierre back makes sense. Pierre can be acquired on the cheap, can leadoff and set the table for the Phillies, and will give the team a great fourth outfielder when Revere returns.
The 35 year old left hander is only hitting...
