The Red Sox couldn't complete the sweep in Tampa, losing 4-3 as a result of their Achilles heel, the 8th inning. With no true set-up man on the roster -- and a tired bullpen anyway -- the Red Sox turned to youngster Rubby de la Rosa to take down the heart of the Rays order, relieving Drake Britton. De la Rosa's task was not an easy one -- with one out he was to set down Evan Longoria and Wil Myers. That went about as well as you'd expect based on how I'm writing this. Longoria ripped a ground-rule double (off the bat I thought it might be out of the park) and Myers doubled to right to drive in Longoria for what would be the winning run. Fernando Rodney came on for the shakiest of shaky saves, brushing Jonny Gomes back, throwing balls in the dirt, and throwing one to the backstop. That guy is garbage. Jake Peavy tossed a quality start for Boston, but he wasn't his best, walking five batters. Despite the five walks, he still nursed six innings out of his 107 pitches.  The Sox did have a pair of solo home runs, one by Jarrod Saltalamacchia and a pimped-out rocket by David Ortiz.  Tampa did a fair bit of celebrating after the win, which Tom Caron noted was humorous given that they're in a free fall. But hey, you can't be sad all the time. Maybe this win will help turn them around (let's hope not; they remain the only team that really scares me). The Sox come home to Fenway for their final showdown with the Yankees this weekend.  Box score
