That was awful...again. The Sox traded early punches with the Tigers, then came out with a 4-3 lead in the 4th that lasted into the 7th. The Tigers tied it in the 7th, added 3 in the 8th, and Boston's 1 run in the 9th wasn't nearly enough, ending the final game at 7-5. The Sox looked terrible in the series. Blowing saves, leads, leaving men on base. It was especially frustrating to watch today's game. The Sox left 11 men on base, while going 2-14 with runners in scoring position. Pedey and Ortiz each recorded 3 hits on the afternoon, but both went 0-for-1 with RISP. Mike Napoli blew it hard, going 0-for3 in that department. One of the most frustrating things about this game was the offense was able to knock Verlander out after 5 (7 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 112 pitches), but the pitching could not hold the Tigers offense down. Doubront had to work hard through his 5 innings of work, (4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 104 pitches), and should have been credited with the win if Andrew Miller didn't give up 3 runs. Andrew Bailey also made an appearance in the game, giving up 2 hits, and 1 run in 1/3 of an inning. So to sum it up, the offense put some runs up, but sucked with runners in scoring position. Doubront was just okay, and the 'pen was terrible, leading to another Sox loss. Box Score
