Mike Pelfrey Still Doesn’t Get It
PELFREY: Will it ever happen for him?
Mike Pelfrey continues to tick me off. This time, it is hearing the news has been pitching with a high right ankle sprain during spring training. Pelfrey said he injured his ankle in the offseason and aggravated it the beginning of camp.
There are several ways to look at this, none of them good for the Mets:
If Pelfrey is injured, then heâ€...
Garrett Olson Struck By Batted Ball, Suffers Contusion
Â
Mets left-hander Garrett Olson was struck by a batted ball on his pitching hand during a Minor League game on Sunday. He suffered a contusion on the palm of his hand and was taken to a local hospital for precautionary X-rays, which were negative.
Olson was a strong contender to make the Mets as a reliever, and it’s not yet clear if this will pose any setback.
He has allowed...
Mets Q&A with Ed Leyro from Studious Metsimus
There are a ton of people who write about the Mets and I am happy to say that most of them seem to be good people, too. I guess it is not a huge surprise that the guys at the biggest sites – Cerrone and Baron at MetsBlog and Simon, Kannengeiser, Artus and crew over at Amazin’ Avenue – are top notch. But it seems that no matter what size Mets blog you run across, you will...
Santana Slated To Throw 90-95 Pitches Today Against Cards
Johan Santana takes the mound today in a 1:05 PM start against the St. Louis Cardinals. Manager Terry Collins said Santana is expected to throw 90-95 pitches in the game.
In his last start, also against the Cardinals, Santana threw 69 pitches, 48 of them for strikes in what was his best pitched game of the spring. His impressive performance prompted Collins to say this:
“There...
Torres not progressing
Photo by Michael BaronAndres Torres straining left calf is not making progress and there is still no time frame on his return.  With just a little over a week before opening day the Mets have to come up with an alternative plan. Even if Hairston was seen as an everyday center fielder, which I don't believe is the case they have to take it easy on him as he returns from his...
Wright could play Tuesday?
David Wright, who is yet to play in a GrapefruitLeague game this spring due to a torn abdominal muscle, but did full pregame work with teammates on Saturday. On Sunday afternoon Wright took three at-bats of live batting practice followed by a regular session of batting practice, according to David Lennon of Newsday. Hitting coach Dave Hudgins — who did not travel with the club...
And then there was den Dekker. Mets centerfield position is wide open.
Matt den Dekker was called back to major league camp and is now getting a good look for an outfield spot. Captain Kirk better hope he fails because if den Dekker passes him on the depth chart he is going to be stuck.
den Dekker would not have been my choice. He is a centerfielder but he is not ready to hit in the majors yet. He made the jump to Double-A last year and struggled. Double...

Â
Pretty cool if you ask me… I knew the Mets would do stuff like this this season. I’m sure for the 50th anniversary they will put a combination of Mets legends and current Mets like Ike Davis, David Wright, Johan Santana, and R.A. Dickey.
The Mets are starting to get it...
Cardinals minor league spring training notebook: 03/23
On Friday, the St. Louis Cardinals players and coaches for their five spring clubs, including both Quad Cities teams, walked over to the Miami Marlins’ side of Roger Dean Stadium complex for 1:00 P.M. games.
Quad Cities White won, Springfield tied and the other three clubs absorbed a loss.
The Cardinals spring record against external minor league competition is now 7-9-3.
I posted...
Another Day Another Met Goes Down
It’s getting hard to even keep up with the injuries at this point. But yet another Met goes down. Jason Bay was hit by a pitch from Strasburg, he’s lucky he still has an arm. As of now, we’re to believe Jason Bay just has a bruised forearm.
If the Mets were to lose Jason Bay, I don’t think anyone would even care at this point. It sucks that he came to NY and can’t hit anymore...
Cardinals, Mets play to 10-inning tie
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) -- Ike Davis and Lucas Duda each hit home runs as the New York Mets' tied the St. Louis Cardinals 6-6 in 10 innings Saturday.
It was the first homer for Davis, who was diagnosed earlier in spring training with what is likely valley fever, which can cause extreme fatigue. Davis hit a three-run shot off Lance Lynn in the first.
Cardinals center fielder...
Could the Mets Release Mike Pelfrey?
I didn’t realize Mike Pelfrey’s contract for this year is non guaranteed. It’s been brought up a few times in the past few days so even if the Mets supposedly aren’t thinking of releasing him…someone is thinking about it. There is no reason to bring it up if no one is thinking about it.
The problem I see here is that Big Pelf will go somewhere and dominate. Someone will...
Cardinals Broadcast Gets Lazy On Identifying Players (Photo)
During a game between the St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Mets, the Cards' broadcast team failed to identify one of the team's prospects, and instead labeled him as "Minor League Guy."That "minor league guy" is Oscar Taveras, and he's not your average guy from the minors. In fact, he's one of the team's top prospects. And boy, this kid...
Looks like Batista makes the team
Photo by Michael BaronIt seemed likely that Miguel Batista was making the team since they seemed to like his veteran leadership in the pen, along with providing decent innings since joining the organization. Now with D.J. Carrasco more then likely be starting the season on the DL, Batista seems to be a lock for the roster. Â Batista making the team will cost someone their 40 man roster...
Cardinals release two, send down three
The St. Louis Cardinals dropped five from big league camp on Sunday. Alex Cora and Koyie Hill were released. Mark Hamilton, Eduardo Sanchez and Matt Adams were cut.
