If you were looking forward to some good ol' fashioned Beckett hate, you couldn't have asked for a better game.  Josh gave up 5 home runs as the Tigers embarrassed the Red Sox 10-0.

I don't know if his thumb is still bothering him or it's the curse of the even season.  Maybe it's just a standard bad day.  Whatever it was, Beckett looked terrible.  He gave up a two-run shot to Miguel Cabrera in the first.  Settled down and pitched effectively through the second and third.  Then, in the fourth, he gave up homers to Prince Fielder and Avila.  In the fifth, Cabrera and Fielder enjoyed their first home runs so much they figured they'd do it again.  Atchison followed Beckett and pitched like Scott Atchison.  Albers looked like Albers (although he did pluck Fielder with a nasty 97 MPH fastball in the ankle, so there's that).

In total, Beckett was tagged for 7 runs in 4.2 innings while striking out 3.  Atchison gave up a run over 1.1 innings, and Albers gave up 2 runs (1 earned) in just .2 innings pitched.  The always-formidable Justin Thomas and Bowden finished out the game.

The offense didn't fare much better than the pitching staff.  Doug Fister, the Tigers starter, left the game after pitching 3 2/3 scoreless innings due to a "left-side muscle strain" and the Sox could never take advantage.  Adrian and Sweeney were the only Sox with multiple hits (2 each).  Ortiz hit a single and Salty smacked a nice double down right in his first at-bat for the only other hits for Sox starters.  Shoppach took a swipe at a ball that was about eye-level and snuck it past 3rd for a single in mop-up duty.

If you were wondering how it was going to play out, I think we have confirmation of just how terrifying a lineup consisting of Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder actually is.
