Brad Penny has reached an agreement with the Boston Red Sox on a one-year deal with a base salary of $5 million.
Fox Sports reports, that the contract has incentives that could make the total value of the deal as much as $8 million dollars.
"There were a lot of teams involved," said Penny in a phone conversation. "But I wanted to go somewhere where I knew we had a great chance at winning and Boston is that place."
Penny, missed the last part of the 2008 season with the Dodgers due to a sore shoulder and tendinitis. The deal is not official until Penny passes a physical in Boston on January 7th.
The 29-year-old right-hander will join his former teammate with the Marlins, Josh Beckett.
