The Red Sox have always been very mindful of their international audience, and following the club on social media just became a whole lot easier for those who speak Japanese. The Red Sox on Friday launched a new, Japanese language Twitter account (@redsoxjp), which will include translations of the team’s English language social media content, regular interviews with Sox players and exclusive interviews and information from relievers Junichi Tazawa and Koji Uehara. The Red Sox are the first team in Major League Baseball to launch a Japanese Twitter account. “The support of Japanese fans is a source of motivation for me on the mound,” Uehara said, according to a press release. “This platform provides a new way for them to follow the team and show their support. We hope fans will root for us through our official Japanese Twitter account.” The account was created in partnership with Major League Baseball Advanced Media, and will also give fans who follow the account the opportunity to participate in sweepstakes, giveaways and live Q&A sessions with Uehara. The Japanese account is the Red Sox’ second foreign language Twitter account, as the club also launched a Spanish language Twitter account in 2011. Fans with questions regarding the new online platform can contact the team by email at redsoxjp@redsox.com. Have a question for Ricky Doyle?
