Top Sox Pick Trey BallWEEI.com's Alex Speier reports that Boston's first pick in this year's MLB Draft, Trey Ball, is set to sign with the club as early as today. The #7 overall pick is a left-handed high school pitcher out of Indiana. Ball is expected to sign below the $3.246 million slot number—which (in conjunction with other savings) will allow the Red Sox to sign their third round pick (catching prospect Jon Denney) at a higher amount that his slot allotment. Ball showed mid-90s velocity and a minuscule ERA (0.76) in his senior year—all a the New England-like climate.

The Boston Red Sox have put pitcher Clay Buchholz on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained neck.
The Red Sox made the move Tuesday after beating Tampa Bay 5-1 in the opener of a day-night doubleheader. Buchholz threw for a brief period in the bullpen following the game.
Buchholz is 9-0 and leads the majors with a 1.71 ERA.
The right-hander made an early exit from his...
Will Middlebrooks and Mike Napoli will start the second of two games on the bench for the Red Sox on Tuesday night, after the Sox claimed Game 1 against the Rays 5-1.
Jose Iglesias will get the start at third in Middlebrooks’ place for the nightcap, with Daniel Nava filling in for Napoli at first.

The Red Sox wives will be holding a children’s book drive, which benefits the non-profit organization Room to Grow, while Boston takes on the Blue Jays at Fenway Park on Friday, June 28.
Those who wish to donate should visit the table set up outside of each gate at Fenway Park starting at 5:40 p.m. until the completion of the second inning. Room to Grow is looking for books suitable...
With the double header on Tuesday, the Red Sox have a lot of additions to the roster. The one big subtraction may be Clay Buchholz, as he might be headed to the disabled list.
First Things First: Napoli, Carp Available
After sitting out three of the four games in Baltimore due to illness, Mike Napoli is back and better. He is in the lineup for Game 1 of Tuesday’s double header...
After throwing a bullpen session between games of the rain-delayed doubleheader, Clay Buchholz was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a neck strain. Buchholz has made just one start since June 2.
The move was made retroactive to June 9, meaning Buchholz won't make his scheduled start Saturday in Detroit. Allen Webster will likely make...
Just in case you’d forgotten, here’s a little reminder that the Red Sox are still in first place.
With Bruins fever sweeping through New England during the B’s Stanley Cup run, the Sox have been put on the back burner to a certain extent — and that’s too bad, considering how much drama they’re dealing with.
The American League East isn’t getting any easier, of course...

Sorry Texas, but Trey Ball won't be hooking any horns anytime soon. The number seven pick in the 2013 MLB draft signed with the Red Sox yesterday for a bonus of $2.75 million.
Ball signed his contact in Boston and the Red Sox organization rolled out the, proverbial, red carpet for their highest draft pick since Trot Nixon...
Thursday night’s tilt between the Red Sox and Tigers pitted two of the American League’s top offenses against one another, but it was the men on the mound who shined — until the ninth inning, at least.
Boston starter John Lackey turned in a stat line nearly identical to his last outing, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk over seven innings. He was unable to come away...
After taking the nightcap off of the Red Sox-Rays double header, Mike Napoli will bat fifth and play first base as Boston faces off against Jeremy Hellickson.
Jonny Gomes will start his second game in a row against a right-hander. He was the hero of the night on Tuesday when he hit a two-run walk-off home run off Joel Peralta in the bottom of the ninth. Gomes is batting .207 on the...
5:12 p.m.: Jarrod Saltalamacchia is earning his paycheck. Salty caught both games of the doubleheader on Tuesday, and he’ll once again be in the starting lineup on Wednesday.
Will Middlebrooks will be out of the lineup, as the left side of Boston’s infield will consist of Stephen Drew and Jose Iglesias at shortstop and third base, respectively.
The complete lineups for Wednesday...
Following a night of late heroics from Jonny Gomes, the Red Sox could not quite finish off the Rays for a clean series sweep, as the Rays ended up on top 6-2.
I must say...I was pretty impressed with the turnout at Fenway Park tonight. That was easily a 30,000-plus night of attendace, which is surprising when the Bruins are down the street in the Stanley Cup Finals. Not bad Red...

British announcer does play by play spoof for the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox contest. Good for a laugh and 2 minutes of your life you will never get back. Need to team this guy up with Vin Scully.

Alfredo Aceves arrived at Fenway a little late today, which meant Franklin Morales (above) was on stand-by.
The “Greek God of Walks”–Kevin Youkilis–may have been supplanted by a couple of young guns on the left side of the 2013 Red Sox infield, but this team seems to have no trouble understanding the concept that four balls to one batter means that batter gets his base. They...
