Boston Red Sox
New York Yankees
Chicago White Sox
If the Red Sox don’t want to have to worry about facing their archrival, the Yankees, in the 2013 American League Division Series (which they would if the Yankees took the wild card game), winning this weekend’s four-game series in the Bronx would help.
Boston will be around a +120 series underdog by Bovada oddsmakers — first three games only — as the Sox look to keep New York from the postseason for the first time since 2008.
Should Boston win three of the four, the Red Sox would clinch the season series against New York a year after going 5-13 against the Yanks. The Sox hold a 7-5 lead, winning four of six at Yankee Stadium.
Thursday’s opener will have live betting, and Boston opened as a -102 underdog. The Yankees are scheduled to start right-hander Ivan Nova (8-4, 2.88 ERA). He comes off the best start of his career, a complete-game three-hitter against the Orioles. That win was his first shutout, and it was only the second time in the past 10 years a Yankees starting pitcher wo...

Your browser does not support iframes. A celebration of a fantastic catch by Boston Red Sox right fielder Shane Victorino led one Red Sox fan to accidentally knock a woman's cell phone onto the field AND spill another woman's beer into her face within a matter of seconds during Wednesday night's game at Fenway Park. It happened in the fourth inning as Victorino chased...

A heated rivalry, postseason implications and, perhaps, some added drama stemming from the last time these clubs met, sure sounds like a September matchup between the Yankees and Red Sox. The Yanks and Sox begin a four game series on Thursday in the Bronx with Ivan Nova (8-4, 2.88 ERA) taking on Jake Peavy (3-1, 3.18 ERA.) Nova won the American League...
The Yankees will try to recover from a devastating loss last night, as Andy Pettitte gets the ball for the Yankees in game two of a four game series with the Red Sox. Mariano Rivera and David Robertson are both likely unavailable tonight, so Joe Girardi‘s options for a closer are limited. Felix Doubront gets the start for the Sox. Check out a preview of tonight’s game here.
(USAToday Sports Photo)Red Sox phenom Xander Bogaerts has won USAToday's Minor League Player Of The Year Award. The exciting 20-year old Aruban had a combined .297 average with 15 home runs and 67 RBIs at AA and AAA. Impressively, he collected an .865 OPS at those stops as well. Since coming to The Show on August 20th, he's hitting .300 in just 21 plate appearances. We'...
After a thrilling come from behind win last night, the Yankees go for the sweep against the White Sox! CC Sabathia gets the ball and will try to turn in a quality start. He will be opposed by Erik Johnson, who will be making his Major League debut tonight. The Yankees are currently 4-1 on their current 10-game homestand. Anything less than 8-2 would be a major disappointment, so...
Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
The home run barrage was led by Ortiz with two, -- a two-run shot in seventh and solo homer in fourth -- Middlebrooks added his grand slam, with two-run shots by Stephen Drew and Ryan Lavarnway, and solo shots...
20 years ago today, Jim Abbott took to the mound at Yankee Stadium in front of 27,125 fans on an overcast, somewhat damp day. Abbott entered that game with a record of 9-11 with a 4.31 ERA for the Yankees in 1993 – largely unimpressive. In the December before the season, he was traded to New York by the Angels after a couple of good years in California, but couldn’t quite carry...
Quintin Berry might only have one role with the Red Sox this season. But it’s an important role.
Berry, who was acquired in exchange for pitcher Clayton Mortensen last week, figures to be the Red Sox’ go-to pinch runner down the stretch and likely into the postseason if all goes well over the final month of the regular season. As we saw Thursday, Berry could really leave a mark...

Boston Red Sox 12 — New York Yankees 8
High-scoring affair features the drained bullpen struggling in tonight’s 12-8 loss to the Boston Red Sox.
With one out, Derek Jeter worked out a walk against Red Sox starter Felix Doubront. Alfonso Soriano would make Doubront pay for that with...
The Boston Red Sox were without a pair of regulars for last
night’s contest against the Detroit Tigers. Center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury was
nursing a thumb injury, but he’s expected to be back in the Red Sox’ lineup as
soon as today. That won’t be the case for Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who’s dealing
with a sore back, as the catcher is expected to miss a few games due...
Last night’s game between the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox was one for the ages as the Red Sox scored 20 runs and made history in so many ways. In the end, Boston also took two out of three from the Tigers in the series. Despite taking two out of three, the more important aspect from this series came from last night’s game. The final score ended up being 20-4 and by the...
Clay Buchholz made what is expected to be his final, last, this time we mean it minor league rehab start Thursday night.
Pitching for Triple-A Pawtucket in Rochester, Cautious Clay went three shutout innings before allowing a pair of runs in the fourth inning.
Buchholz threw 72 pitches (51 for strikes) in 3 2/3 innings of work, gave up four hits,...
I'm still angry. I've got the Rage Virus from 28 Days Later. I'm in the foam-at-the-mouth phase of Elisabeth Kubler Ross' five stages of grief. Last night, if we'd lost 14-2 - just pitched infielders and switched the JumboTron to the NFL - my gums wouldn't still be bleeding. I WISH I HAD NEVER BEEN BORN! I CURSE THIS UNIVERSE FOR GIVING ME LIFE.1. If I...
It was assumed Friday afternoon that when Jacoby Ellsbury‘s name didn’t appear on the Red Sox lineup card that the outfielder would be sitting down with more discomfort in his hand, the same ailment that caused him to miss a game against the Tigers earlier in the week. It appears, however, that a foot injury is what will keep Ellsbury out of Friday night’s game in the Bronx...
At the end of the season, Boston outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury will become a free agent. The Red Sox definitely are interested in re-signing the 29-year old, but if his price "goes well into the nine-figure" area, the Red Sox don't appear too optimistic that they will be re-signing him.
The Boston Red Sox have "keen interest" in re-signing outfielder Jacoby...
