The Boston Red Sox have until three P.M. on Sunday to turn into their 25-man roster for Monday's opener against the New York Yankees.
Basically we know that Jackie Bradley, Jr. will be the final piece of the 25-man puzzle for now but they have to find a way to get him on the 40-man roster. So while we wait for that, the Red Sox announced some moves after yesterday's final Grapefruit League.
Here's the release:
FORT MYERS, FL -- Following this afternoon's game, the Red Sox released outfielder Ryan Sweeney, and reassigned outfielder Mitch Maier to Triple-A Pawtucket. The announcements were made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington.
Sweeney, 28, signed with Boston as a minor league free agent in January and was a non-roster invitee to Major League Spring Training. In 21 games for the Red Sox this spring, he batted .217 with one double and two RBI.
