Boston Red Sox
Los Angeles Dodgers
Before losing two of three to the Red Sox over the weekend, the streaking Los Angeles Dodgers hadn’t lost a series since mid-June, going 14-0-4 in series over that stretch to become World Series favorites. That unbeaten streak was a team record and the longest in a season by any team since the 2002 Braves went undefeated in 22 straight series.
Despite Boston’s impressive performance at Chavez Ravine, Los Angeles remains the 4-1 championship favorite by Bovada oddsmakers. Boston is fourth at 17-2.
To be fair to Dodgers backers, they did face the Red Sox without their two best pitchers, Clayton Kershaw, the likely NL Cy Young winner, and Zack Greinke. Boston’s rotation was set up perfectly for the series with John Lackey, Jon Lester and Jake Peavy, who pitches well at Dodger Stadium. The Sox did win despite playing without David Ortiz in the final two games.
Now Boston has to avoid a potential letdown as it opens a three-game series with the Orioles on Tuesday night. The Sox will be a...

The Dodgers sent eight players to the Arizona Fall League
last year, including Joc Pederson and Yasiel Puig. Pederson struggled mightily
and Puig didn’t play due to a staph infection.
This year, the Dodgers will again send eight players, led by
2012 first-round draft pick Corey Seager. Joining him -- for now -- are
catchers Pratt Maynard and Chris O’Brien, as well...
The HorrorAccording to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, The Evil Empire (AKA The Pinstriped Posers, Evil Ones, Bronx Embalmers) could be a "wild card" contender for the free agency services of Jacoby Ellsbury. In an article listing the top 50 2014 free agents (Ellsbury is ranked #2 just behind Robinson Cano), Heyman states that Boston, Seattle or Toronto are the most likely...
LOS ANGELES Don Mattingly walked slowly to the mound in the ninth inning Monday night, and the crowd at Dodger Stadium booed.
How strange. Since they turned around their season two months ago, the Dodgers have been one long love affair. Cheers and standing ovations are standard fare.
But at the thought that Mattingly, the Dodgers manager, might pull starting pitcher Zack Greinke...
This was coming. And frankly, what happened Wednesday might be the best thing for Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig.
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly had talked to Puig, his coaches had talked to Puig and, in recent days, a number of the team's veterans had talked to Puig.
Their message still was not getting through.
So, Mattingly yanked Puig at the start of the fifth...
LOS ANGELES No reason to worry about Clayton Kershaw.
The collective gasp that took place at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday night turned out to be a false alarm. Kershaw was hit above his left ankle by a line drive and went down for a moment, but he's OK.
The Dodgers' offense is not. On a night when Kershaw didn't have his best stuff, the Dodgers were beaten...
If this is true – it’s a great pull by Mike Napoli. The pudgy, bearded Red Sox first baseman will have his hands full with this one. I trust that most of the fans have seen Rachel Starr a time or two or three.
We're not exactly sure what it means, but the Red Sox consummated a trade today—acquiring outfielder Quintin Berry from the Kansas City Royals for Clayton Mortensen. Berry's only MLB experience came in 2012 with the Tigers—hitting .258 in 94 games for Detroit. Berry had been designated for assignment by the Royals in June. Your guess is as good as ours!
The Red Sox had an interesting week. It was also a productive week.
When the Red Sox boarded their flight to San Francisco last Monday, they did so on the heels of a crushing loss to the Yankees. Boston, of course, fell to New York on the national stage in an eventful game that saw Ryan Dempster drill Alex Rodriguez and A-Rod subsequently hit a home run against the veteran right...
Nearly 14 months ago, I, like many people in Los Angeles, tuned in to ESPN AM 710 to listen to the introduction of the new owners of the Los Angeles Dodgers, The Guggenheim Baseball Management Team. Magic Johnson, Mark Walter and Stan Kasten stood on a stage in center field at Dodger Stadium and promised to restore the Dodgers’ tradition of winning and pride. It felt like...

Don’t be surprised if you spot Boston starter John Lackey on the corner of Lansdowne Street one day soon with a tin cup and a cardboard sign reading “Brother, can you spare a run?"
The Sox have scored...
NESN announced today that Dennis Eckersley would continue pairing up with Don Orsillo on TV broadcasts of Red Sox games through Thursday. Then, Friday through Monday, Orsillo will be joined by Jon Rish—who quit WEEI last April before that radio station experienced its major shake-ups (that persist to this day). Also on Friday, Hall of Fame baseball writer Peter Gammons will be...

12 p.m.: The Red Sox can go a long way in squashing the playoff hopes of one of their division rivals starting Tuesday night in Boston.
The Sox return home from a West Coast road trip Monday night to host the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park. The O’s come into Boston having lost eight of their last 14 games, and they begin the day 5 1/2 games back of the Red Sox in the American...
Ryan Dempster may have been suspended, but he actually saw it as a good thing. The pitcher, who in his last seven starts has gone 1-1 with a 6.81 ERA, took the five-day suspension as an opportunity to hopefully bring his game up for his next start on Friday at home against the White Sox.
"My arm is probably benefiting from it," Dempster...
