The 2012 season hasn't even started yet and it's already gotten off on the wrong thumb for the Boston Red Sox.
With rosters being due at 5 p.m. today into the MLB offices, one thing is for certain. Andrew Bailey will start the season on the disabled list. Heck, there's even a chance he might not be activated until September.
The early reports state that Bailey will...
The Ted's Army crew has created a series of collectors items to write home about. To preview the 2012 Red Sox season, we have created player cards that you can collect and trade with your friends over a nice tall glass of iced tea. Sit back and enjoy part 2 of 4 of our season preview, the bullpen.
Alfredo Aceves will likely see time as a starter, set-up man, closer, and...
The Red Sox had a number of potential concerns coming into 2012, including a bullpen bereft of it most reliable arms. With former closer Jonathan Papelbon now a Philly and Daniel Bard moved into the starting rotation, the club had to wait and see whether its off-season acquisitions could be suitable replacements.
One game in the concerns remain.
No relief for the Red Sox as bullpen...
Well the Boston Red Sox got some good news and bad news about the thumb injuries suffered by Andrew Bailey and Josh Beckett.
The bad news is that Bailey will undergo surgery on Wednesday and be lost for at least three months. Some reports say he won't return until September.
Here's the release from the Red Sox on Bailey:
BOSTON, MA— The Boston Red Sox issued the...
The Boston Red Sox kicked off the 2012 season with a tough loss in Detroit on Thursday. The players seemed a bit timid to start the game, maybe caught up with some Opening Day butterflies. If Boston was excited heading into the start of the regular season, well they certainly weren't alone. Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine explained that he "felt like one of the guys"...
Bobby Valentine has named Alfredo Aceves the team's closer while Andrew Bailey rehabs from thumb surgery. The manager made the announcement on Wednesday, just one day before the team opens up the 2012 season in Detroit against the Tigers. Aceves went 10-2 in 55 appearances last year (four starts) and posted a 2.61 ERA. He has four career saves (two in 2011) in 114 career games.
Alfredo Aceves is going to begin the season as the Red Sox closer, and he's more than confident he will be up to the task. The reliever-turned-starter-turned-reliever again spoke about how he is looking forward to the challenge, and Jon Lester and Bobby Valentine seem to agree. Check out what Aceves, Lester and Valentine all have to say about the team's closer in the video...
At least it was exciting. You never want to start the season on a down note, but the Red Sox have a little something to build on after Ryan Sweeney's dramatic ninth-inning triple to tie the game and deny Justin Verlander his first win of the season. Yes, the Tigers ended up scoring in the bottom of the frame to claim a walk-off victory, but it was a wild enough ride where there...

WASHINGTON -- The fortunes of the Boston Red Sox pitching staff took a detour Tuesday through Cleveland, where ace Josh Beckett and closer Andrew Bailey were both having second opinions on thumb injuries. Beckett is expected to OK, while Bailey could miss much of the season. "The good news for us is that their situations don't seem to be the same," manager Bobby Valentine...
The outspoken Curt Schilling has taken his opinions on the 2012 Red Sox to Twitter. After an announcement was made Wednesday saying Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine would make weekly appearances on The Michael Kay Show, Schilling took to the Internet to express his thoughts on the decision. The former Sox pitcher believed Valentine's move to speak with the New York media on a...
Throughout his first spring training as Red Sox manager, Bobby Valentine hasn't shied away from expressing his opinion on the Yankees. Now, he'll get the chance to speak directly to New York's fanbase all season, as the Boston skipper signed a deal to make weekly appearances on ESPN-1050's The Michael Kay Show, the New York Daily News reported on Wednesday. "...
On Sunday, I covered the ceilings and basements for all the Red Sox everyday players. Today? It's all about the pitching staff, which could be really good, but now is full of even more question marks with the news that Andrew Bailey is going to have to spend half the season on the disabled list.
Who closes? Who starts? Last night I struck my wife. Then I found out my wife...
The Red sox were dealt a difficult blow in the offseason, when longtime closer Jonathan Papelbon chased the money right out of the Boston bullpen and straight to Philadelphia. But it appears the Red Sox may have had their own far-cheaper version of Papelbon in house all along. Alfredo Aceves, the Red Sox reliable right-hander, is set to take over the team's closing role starting...
