If you want to earn your way to the major leagues, you stay out of trouble and use your God given talents to get there. You don't go out and get arrested for a DUI.
Boston Red Sox prospect Drake Britton was arrested on Saturday night for DUI, reckless driving and property damage by the Lee County Sherrif's office.
According to the sheriff's office, Britton was clocked at 111 MPH and while being pursued drove recklessly through traffic and took out part of a fence.
Britton was sent down to Double-A Portland on Monday as part of the Red Sox's first cuts of spring training.
Here's the statement from the Red Sox on this matter:
The Red Sox released a statement today regarding the arrest of left-handed pitcher Drake Britton.
"This is a matter that the Red Sox take very seriously, and it is being addressed. The club will not make further comment on this matter."
Now while I don't think the Red Sox will go to the extreme of releasing him outright, I'm pretty sure they'll be suspending him without pay. My guess is also he'll be sent to some sort of alcohol counseling. But that's purely speculation on my part.
He's lucky that he didn't hurt anyone in the chase. I know he's young but if you've been drinking, call a freaking cab. It may just save your life, and in this case, your career.
