The Boston Red Sox have inquired on free agent right-hander Kyle Lohse, remain interested in outfielder Josh Hamilton and “made a really strong push” to sign veteran starter Hiroki Kuroda before he re-upped with the New York Yankees, reports Rob Bradford of WEEI.com. Heard from yet another source that #RedSox made a really strong push on Kuroda. Potentially important AL East swing #emphasisonpotentially — Rob Bradford (@bradfo) November 21, 2012 The Red Sox have called about Lohse, but considering he’s 34 years old he may be out of Boston’s age range, reports Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe. At the three-year commitment he seeks he could be a “risky” investment for the club. General manager Ben Cherington told Jim Bowden of ESPN that the Red Sox are “still pursuing” free agent outfielder Josh Hamilton, who he called “a terrific talent.” Boston has a void in the outfielder with Cody Ross hitting the open market. RHP Kyle Lohse: Top five teams that should have interest

RHP Kyle Lohse: Top five teams that should have interest             A lot of attention has been given to free agent RHP Zack Greinke, and rightly so as he should get a contract in the excess of $100 million. Ben Cherington Says Red Sox Need to Be Selective in Signing Free Agents to Keep Young Core (Video)

The Red Sox are taking a selective approach to this year’s thin free agent pool. Ben Cherington said the team is trying to keep a young core, so they’re trying to find players in free agency that are either just entering their prime, or can produce well into their 30s. By Cherington’s remarks it seems that, as you can imagine, the Red Sox’s focus in free agency will be in...

Happy Gomesgiving

So it ain’t quite like that Thanksgiving past, when Theo and crew broke biscuits with the Schilling family. But the signing of Jonny Gomes reminds us that baseball is moving ever-closer, and we just gotta trust that Ben, like Galactus, has some sort of master plan that hopefully doesn’t include the Earth being torn part [...]

Last summer, as Bobby V led the Red Sox through the AL East with all the grace and precision of a blind guy trying to parallel park a Greyhound bus on Mass Ave at rush hour during a meteor shower/missile attack, I knew that something was missing. No, it wasn’t charm or class or motivation [...]
