Fresh off a World Championship with the St. Louis Cardinals, 11-year veteran Nick Punto has signed with the Boston Red Sox to a 2 year $3 million deal. It didn't take long for Boston to find another utility infielder after the team traded Jed Lowrie to the Astros.
Punto has played 250 games or more at three infield positions: second base, third base, and shortstop. Punto hit .278 last year with the Cardinals, slugging a whopping one home run in 133 at bats. He is known as a pretty decent fielder but is better known for his use with a bat. Among active players with at least 2,500 plate appearances, only Cesar Izturis (.322) has a lower career slugging percentage than Punto (.327).
This song pretty much sums up Nick Punto in a nutshell...
