Boston-red-sox-beckett
The way Josh Beckett had pitched lately, it might be a little bit of a surprise to hear that the right-hander was added to the 15-day disabled list on Saturday. The official diagnosis is shoulder inflammation, but the Sox certainly don't sound all too concerned, or have indicated that Beckett might be out for a prolonged period of time. That would certainly be a blow to a rotation which has been trying to find consistency beyond Felix Doubront and (more recently) Clay Buchholz. Before Saturday's game Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine spoke briefly about Beckett's injury, so watch the video...

Shutout loss, Beckett's injury add to Red Sox's misery

The losses -- and the frustrations -- continue to mount for the Boston Red Sox. They lost 3-0 to the Chicago Cubs in Friday's series opener at Wrigley Field, and afterward came the news that right-hander Josh Beckett will miss his next because of shoulder inflammation. At 31-33, the Red Sox are not a happy team. "We hit some balls good, man," said second baseman...

Red Sox place Josh Beckett on DL

The Boston Red Sox have placed right-hander Josh Beckett on the 15-day disabled list because of right shoulder inflammation. Manager Bobby Valentine said before Saturday's game against the Chicago Cubs that the Red Sox are ''going to take the conservative route.'' Beckett is 4-7 with a 4.14 ERA in 12 starts this year. He was scheduled to start Sunday. Valentine...

Red Sox put Beckett on DL

The Boston Red Sox placed right-hander Josh Beckett on the 15-day disabled list with an inflamed right shoulder, MLB.com reported Saturday. The club will call up right-hander Clayton Mortensen from Class AAA Pawtucket to take Beckett's spot on the roster. Beckett did not show signs of an injury in his start on Monday. He allowed four runs in the first two innings against...

Beckett to the DL

The Red Sox announced yesterday that Josh Beckett would miss his start on Sunday and that Franklin Morales was scheduled to make a spot start in his place.  Beckett is experiencing shoulder inflammation in his right arm.  As of yesterday, Bobby Valentine reported that it wasn't a DL issue yet.  However, that is no longer the case since the Sox announced today that they have...

Josh Beckett's Shoulder Sends Him to 15-Day Disabled List, With Clayton Mortensen to Take Roster Spot

Josh Beckett's right shoulder is sore enough that the Red Sox pitcher will have to spend some time on the disabled list. Beckett was put on the 15-day DL on Saturday, with reliever Clayton Mortensen due to take his spot on the big league roster, NESN's Jenny Dell reports. Beckett was first scratched from his scheduled start -- Sunday night in Chicago -- when manager Bobby...

Red Sox Injury Report

Josh Beckett has been scratched from his start Sunday because of a sore shoulder. The team is reporting that he has inflammation in the shoulder joint, and manager Bobby Valentine says that he does not think the injury is very serious. It is possible he heads to the 15 day disabled list, but he should not miss any more time than that. He will be examined further in the upcoming...

Josh Beckett's DL Stint is Precautionary, But Gives Franklin Morales Chance to Prove Himself As A Spot Starter

The Red Sox rotation is undergoing turbulence. A day after skipper Bobby Valentine explained his plan to sit Josh Beckett for at least one start -- due to inflammation in his right shoulder -- the team was forced to place the pitcher on the 15-day disabled list. It shakes up the starting pitching situation just a little more. Nearly a week and a half ago, the Red Sox optioned starter...

Red Sox News & Notes - 6/17

With Josh Beckett out for at least the next 15 days, the Boston Red Sox are going to need Jon Lester to pitch like we all know he's capable of doing. Well, he got things started with a good outing on Saturday night in the Windy City. Lester allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out eight in 6.2 innings and get some solid help from the bullpen as the visiting...

Salty Brings A Much Needed Win to the Sox

With Josh Beckett on the DL, we needed Jon Lester to be an ace more than ever.  Lester has pitched well his last few times out, but has gotten little to no run support.  Lester needed to have a quality outing and he needed the bats to back him up.  The game ended up being closer than we'd like, but that just what happened.  Lester looked great for most of the outing.  He...

Red Sox Live Blog: Franklin Morales Gets the Start in Wrigley Rubber Game

8 a.m. ET: With Josh Beckett on the disabled list due to shoulder inflammation, Franklin Morales will make his first start since 2009 for the Red Sox against the Cubs. Morales, a reliever, hasn't pitched since June 9, but has been stretched out during his last two appearances -- 4 1/3 innings one and three frames in another -- in preparation for an emergency situation. The lefty...

Interleague Play Highlights Need for Unified DH

MLB is in the midst of its second round of interleague play this season. It’s hard to say how they will handle the schedule next year when the two leagues are balanced. We know there will be an interleague series going on all the time, but we don’t know if they are also going to include the massive interleague series like they have since they instituted it. Naturally...

Red Sox Take Series In Wrigley, Trouble Brewing?

The Red Sox took a 7-4 win in Chicago last night, as Franklin Morales, standing in for Josh Beckett, struck out nine Cubs in an impressive start. While Boston has won their last two series, in Miami and Chicago, and gotten back to .500 on the season, Buster Olney says that the Red Sox are a team deep in dissension right now. No real specifics are given, but Olney calls the clubhouse...
