Over? Try telling the Boston Red Sox's remaining opponents that the season is over.

It's true: Other than trying to avoid losing 90 games for the first time since 1966, the next three weeks don't mean much to the Red Sox.

But their opponents have plenty to play for.

Of the Red Sox's final 22 games, all but four are against contenders, giving them a chance to impact the playoff race. The Sox will face the New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays six times apiece.

"It's going to be a different feel than what people are used to around here, but we'll play spoiler," right fielder Cody Ross said. "That's all we can do now, try to go out and ruin people's seasons because ours is pretty much (ruined), so that's what we'll do."

Said right-hander Clay Buchholz, "It's the first time since I've been here where (being a spoiler) has been the case. Hopefully, this feeling that everyone has in this clubhouse will make you not want to have this feeling again."

But it would be amusing if the Red Sox dash another team's playoff chances, especially after last September when they were beaten five times in the season's last nine days by the last-place Orioles.

The Sox are only 4-8 against both the Orioles and Yankees, but they have won seven of 12 games against the Rays.

"I think now that we're getting into playing against the Yankees and the Orioles and teams that are contending in our division, who basically knocked these guys out last year, there'll be some exciting games hopefully," Ross said. "You can see on the other side that teams are pressing and every pitch matters, every play matters, every matchup matters. There will be a little more atmosphere, I would assume."
