The Cincinnati Reds seem to be comfortably headed back to the postseason, but they're about to have a chance to become a major factor in the NL Central race. Before beginning a 10-game stretch that includes seven meetings with St. Louis, the Reds will try to avoid overlooking the visiting Milwaukee Brewers and take this three-game set Sunday. Cincinnati (74-56) has built a sizable cushion in the race for the NL's second wild-card spot, but the team is also 2 12 games back of Central co-leaders Pittsburgh and St. Louis. The Reds are about to get a good chance to further tighten the chase as they open a three-game road series with the Cardinals on Monday. They may have a tough task in Sunday's finale against Milwaukee (56-73). Greg Reynolds (0-1, 9.00 ERA) will make just his second major league start since 2011 in place of Tony Cingrani, who is nursing a strained lower back that has bothered him for the last few weeks. The injury became a serious problem for the rookie lef...

Jonathan Broxton out at least six months after elbow surgery

On Friday, Reds reliever Jonathan Broxton underwent successful elbow surgery to repair the torn flexor mass in his right forearm.  The procedure was performed by Reds medical director Timothy Kremchek and the timetable for Broxton's return is estimated at six months. Reds release postseason ticket information

There is a very good chance that the Reds could be playing in their third postseason in the last four years this fall.  They entered play Monday night with a comfortable 7.0 game lead for the last National League Wild Card spot and trailed the Pirates/Cardinals for first place by just 2.5 games. Furthermore, their odds of making the postseason sat at a promising 99.1 percent...

Mat Latos' slider dubbed 'toughest pitch to hit home run off of'

Mat Latos has been far and away the most reliable starting pitcher for the Reds in 2013. In fact, the right-hander has been nothing short of great since joining Cincinnati prior to the 2012 campaign. Since becoming a Red, the Florida native is an outstanding 27-8 with a tidy 3.24 ERA spanning 59 starts and 378 innings pitched. There have been several factors which have led to his...

Reds in need of rebound after tough loss

Explosive bats lift Reds to 6-3 win over Brewers

After leaving runners on base in each of the first four innings of Saturday's game against the Brewers the Reds appeared to give up on the small ball and go with the long ball as the team used four home runs to beat the Brewers 6-3.
