Reds ace Johnny Cueto was forced to exit his start against the Rangers on Friday after throwing just 29 pitches due to an apparent lateral muscle injury.
The right-hander was pulled from the game after grimacing in pain on his final pitch attempt with no outs in the bottom of the second inning. Manager Dusty Baker quickly rushed to the mound and replaced Cueto with southpaw Tony Cingrani.
Cincinnati fans have become all too accustomed to watching the injury-prone Cueto limp off the field lately.
Cueto has already been on the disabled list twice this year with a strain of the his right lateral muscle. Additionally, he was forced out of the playoffs last year after suffering a strained right oblique in the NLDS against the Giants. The oblique troubled him this year while he was on the disabled list from April 15 to May 20.
The Reds have yet to make an announcement on the severity of his ailment.
