Reds 1, White Sox 0

Chris Sale was disappointed after a pair of rough starts. He rebounded by pitching two-hit ball over six innings and striking out six Monday as the Chicago White Sox lost to the Cincinnati Reds 1-0. ''I want to finish this spring strong,'' Sale said. ''My first couple (outings) were not where I wanted to be. It was nice to go out there and do what I did...

Janish fighting to make Reds' roster

What a difference a year makes for Paul Janish -- and not in a good way. Janish was the starting shortstop last spring. Edgar Renteria was brought in to back him up but the job was Janish's. Janish did lose the job. He was hitting .227 without a home run on July 7 when the Reds optioned him to Class AAA Louisville and brought up Zack Cozart. Cozart was deemed the shortstop...

MLB Preview 2012: Cincinnati Reds

I am a really big fan of the Cincinnati Reds. Not a real fan, just someone that thinks they’re going to be good. They have a young squad full of bombers and speed. They have some talented young pitching and they have a manager that likes to destroy young arms. What’s not to like? Like Tony LaRussa, Dusty Baker, wins just about everywhere he goes, in spite of himself. He practically...

2012 burning question: Chicago White Sox

From yesterday's White Sox season preview... Burning QuestionIs Alex Rios a five tool player, or a five cent player? Here is the thing about Alex Rios: he's shown flashes of absolute brilliance in the past. He has three seasons of at least 30 steals, and two 5+ fWAR seasons. But there are a lot of factors about Rios that scare the hell out of me. He's only hit .300...

The Cuban Missile has enjoyed a nice spring thus far The Spring Training schedule is now a little over halfway complete and Opening Day is a mere two and a half weeks away. Here's a look at who's been having success this preseason, as well as some players that haven't: Who's Hot: - Scott Rolen: The 36-year old is batting .444 (8-18) with a .524 OBP. He...

Reds Bullpen & Other Musings

Spring Training is in full swing at this point and as usual every team is learning who’s who and, most importantly, realizing what they have to work with for the upcoming season. For the Reds, this year, that focus is on the back end of the bullpen which will feature Bill Bray, Nick Masset, and Ryan Madson. Bill Bray, a 28 year old lefty, pitched in 79 games throwing 48.1...

2012 season preview: Chicago White Sox

Oh, the White Sox. 2011 was pretty much a lost year for the team, highlighted by struggles nearly everywhere on the team. Despite all of the downslides, the Sox only finished four games under .500. GM Kenny Williams responded by pretty much blowing up the team, which leaves Chicago with a brand spanking new White Sox team for 2012...well, not totally new. Some guys just couldn'...

2012 season preview: Cincinnati Reds

I don't know if you can call a 79-83 season a "disaster year", but for the 2010 NL Central champion Reds, it was pretty close. They finished third a season after winning the division crown, and nothing changed all that much. 2010 MVP Joey Votto raked again, they didn't get destroyed with injuries...it just kind of all went wrong. But the Reds retooled for 2012,...

Cincinnati Reds Continue To Hammer Indians Pitching Zack Cozart Has Big Day

The Cincinnati Reds gave little help to Indians pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez who has been continuously looking to find his from since coming over to the American League last season. Season Preview: Chicago White Sox

It was a pretty quiet season last year in Chicago.  The White Sox were relatively anonymous among the relevant in baseball.  The AL Central news was dominated by the Royals, and Indians fast starts, and the Verlander-led Detroit Tigers.  Meanwhile, the White Sox were just playing ball, and had that eerie “calm before the storm” feeling.

Opening Day Approaching Fast; Analyzing Spring Stats

The Cincinnati Reds will open the 2012 season on Thursday, April 5, which is just 15 days away. The Reds – who now have 19 spring training games under their belt (8-11) – will host the Miami Marlins on “Opening Day” at 4:05 p.m. ET. (It’s too bad MLB has allowed the tradition of beginning each season in Cincinnati to be diminished more with each passing year, but that...
