Reds sign Arthur Rhodes, Rule V draft update

2:10 PM: Reds traded David Patton to the Cubs per C. Trent Rosencrans

12:47 PM: Reds also draft Francisco Lizarraga in the minor league part of the draft. Seems like he is pretty bad just taking a quick peek at his stats from the minors. Someone drafted Henry Arias from the Reds, but every site covering the draft isn't working for me so I have no idea who it was.

The Reds have reached a preliminary agreement with free-agent left-hander Arthur Rhodes to a two-year, $4 million contract. The deal is pending a physical, which the 39-year-old Rhodes will take Friday.

I'm just taking off for a few hours, but my initial thought is year 2 of this deal will end up just like every other almost 40 reliever the Reds sign to multi year deals.

The Rule V draft was today and the Reds took Rockies relief pitcher David Patton. Patton has never thrown above high A, but has a pretty nice K% coming in at 27.4% in 2008. The only other thing of note is that Jim Bowden continues to want every Reds player in history and drafted the Reds Terrell Young.
