Monique Gooden, the estranged wife of former New York Mets pitcher Dwight Gooden, recently filed a temporary restraining order after alleging that her husband made "terroristic threats" against her and her family.
The alleged incident occurred on March 1 in the couple's home in Bergen County, N.J. The two are still living together while their divorce is pending.
According to the police report, Monique Gooden said her husband told her, "All bets are off and I will hurt you and your family. You'll see, just wait."
A judge granted the restraining order immediately after speaking directly with Mrs. Gooden on the telephone, according to TMZ.
Dwight is currently living in the same home as Monique as the couple goes through their divorce, but the judge ordered Dwight to grab his belongings and leave … which he did. He was not arrested or taken into custody by police.
The court order also strips Dwight of visitation of his two young children until the next court hearing … which is March 11. The judge will also decide at that time on whether to make the temporary restraining order a permanent one.
He was also ordered to continue to make payments on the Range Rover and its insurance for his wife, and make child support payments from a previous court order.
The couple have been married for three years, but Mrs. Gooden filed for divorce in November.
In 2005, Dwight was arrested and charged with domestic violence for allegedly hitting Monique after she threw a phone at him.
Gooden pitched 16 years in the major leagues, most of which came as a member of the Mets. In addition to four All-Star nods, Gooden also was named the National League Rookie of the Year in 1984 and the National League Cy Young Award winner in 1985.
Gooden's 1985 campaign is considered one of the greatest individual seasons by a pitcher of all-time. At just 20-years-old, Gooden boasted a 24-4 record, 1.53 ERA, 16 complete games, and 268 strikeouts in 276.2 innings pitched.
