Sun Sentinel:
According to mlb.com, the Florida Marlins and second baseman Omar Infante have come to terms on a two-year contract. Infante would have been eligible for free agency.
Citing two sources, the report said Infante’s new deal is for two years and about $8 million. Infante and the Marlins began discussion an extension earlier this month. Infante turned down the Marlins’ initial offer and at the time said the two sides would resume negotiations after the season.
Acquired from the Braves last offseason as part of the Dan Uggla deal, Infante has provided the Marlins with Gold Glove-caliber defense. He’s also picked it up offensively in the second half after a rough start.
