John McDonald is joining his eighth Major League Baseball organization. McDonald, who finished the 2013 season as a member of the Boston Red Sox, has agreed to a minor league deal with the Los Angeles Angels, according to WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford. McDonald’s deal reportedly includes an invitation to spring training, and the 39-year-old infielder will earn $850,000 if he makes the Angels’ major league roster. McDonald played for four teams in 2013. He suited up for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Cleveland Indians and Philadelphia Phillies before being traded to the Red Sox on Aug. 31. McDonald, a native of New London, Conn., also has played for the Toronto Blue Jays, Detroit Tigers and Arizona Diamondbacks during his 15-year career. McDonald, known mostly for his defense, appeared in just six games with the Red Sox, although he gave Boston additional depth and provided plenty of veteran leadership. The versatile infielder finished the 2013 season with a .116 average (8-for-69), a homer and four RBIs in 51 total games. Have a question for Ricky Doyle?
